Adjusting when the auto headlight feature turns on?

I recall reading somewhere that this was possible but I could not find it anywhere in the forum. It seems my headlights turn on after the sun has already gone down. Other cars with the feature turn on way before mine does and I would like to make it more sensative to the lower light.

Any help would be great!

I've been pretty happy with the sensitivity but sometimes when it's foggy or rainy and they haven't come on, I just turn them on manually.

I know that doesn't answer your question but I just wanted give you props for the best Aviator I've seen on this site

the 4 runner has auto lights? ive always turned my lights on manually (2008). WTF?

The Limited has the auto-on feature for the headlights.

The sensitivity is adjustable to some degree, but the dealer has to change it for you using their OBD scan tool. It's called a customizable body electronics (C-BEST) setting. There are 5 possible choices - light 2, light 1, normal, dark 1, and dark 2.

Thanks, I have a friend with a really expensive OBD II tool and will see if he can do it for me. My local dealership has black flagged me cause of some of the mods I did already. (aka fog light mod, map light mod, relocating DAP, adding taco fog switches, and the big one having a few gallons of water in my car when it got stuck in the really large puddle

So needless to say I cannot go back to the dealership I purchased the car regardless of the vehicle being perfectly fine. Yes I stripped down the inside of my car to absolutely nothing checking every single connector and applying dielectric grease to everything I could find.

The auto-on headlight sensor is on the dash on the drivers side, next to the defogger vents. I believe the sensor next to it is a light sensor for the auto climate control, as it uses a light measurement to try to compensate for the heat generated by sunlight.

Nope. I haven't seen any aftermarket OBD products that will update settings in the computer. There are some that can read and display the current settings.

Toyota stopped using a special OBD scan tool and switched to a software program a couple of years ago. Even if you were to buy a "real" Toyota scan tool from SPX-OTC, Toyota stopped providing firmware updates for it after the 2007 model year. Unfortunately, the software package (TIS Techstream) can only be purchased with a Panasonic Toughbook laptop kit, which makes it way too expensive for us DIY'ers.

Talked to my friend today he said the same as above. He can only read the current settings he cannot manipulate them in any way. Looks like I will have to find the next closest Toyota dealer and give em $50 to play with it
