[Advice] Bilstein 5100 or 6112/5160

Thanks, it seemed to me they were the same just with the addition of the reservoir. One huge difference though, the 5160's are backordered from Bilstein for 16 weeks! I tried a lot of online merchants and they were all out of stock but I ended up going with AJ-USA since they had the best price. The 6112 are shipping immediately and I was wondering why "it is recommended that the driver side circlip is installed two positions higher than the passenger side circlip." Only the KDSS models are even on both sides

Lots of stuff on the driver side that isn't on the passenger side. Front differential, transfer case, front driveshaft, fuel tank, and driver. Setting the driver side higher compensates for the uneven distribution of weight. I'm not sure I would go 2 settings higher, but I have no direct experience with 6112's.

Hey guys,

Just an update. I ended up going with the Tundra's 6112 and the FJ 5160 w/ OME 891. I ****ing love it. I have a little bit of a rake, but overall sitting at ~2.5in taller. It is a bit stiffer since I have no weight on the car yet, but still better than the original OEM setup I had (before it started giving out, I'm at 400k on the car). I haven't gotten the chance to take it off road yet because of this stupid virus situation... So... I guess I'll save up for 285/75/16r BFG KO2s or the Falken Wildpeak.

New member, lurking since I bought my 3rd gen T4R last year. I'm leaning towards going with the same setup for suspension. Tundra 1st gen 6112's up front (may switch to a 600lb. spring), SPC UCA's and FJ 5160's w/OME 891 rear springs.

Do you have any pics of your rig with the 285's on? How did it settle?

I don't have 285's yet... And it didn't really settle since the car is stock. The car is STIFF. But, I can take pictures of the suspension if you want.

If you had to do it again would you still go with the tundra 6112's or would you go with 4runner 6112's or something different entirely?

Fellow lurker here.. :peep:
So Im checking out Wheelers Offroad website and looking at the options in the springs, its asking about OME 2880, OME 2881, OME 2883 for fronts and OME 2906, OME 2890, OME 2891.... WTF are they talking about here???
I have a 98 runner that is in desperate need of a suspension. I dont plan to do much offroading mostly hauling/trailing and DD.

If I my car wasn't at 400k and I didn't have to do a complete overhaul on my suspension during that time (inner/outer tie rods, all 4 corners suspension and CVs on both sides...) and due for a timing belt job shortly after and tools-- because the money I have to share between everything.; I chose this setup. Or else, I would have gotten Kings/Radflo. They ride a lot WAY smoother. The money I spent on everything, if I have tools and all already, I could have gotten Kings/Radflo easily.

In regards to ride quality, until I have weight on the car... It is stiff, but livable for me. I haven't been in a T4R with 6112/5160 (built for it), but I have been in a Tundra with 6112/5160 (built for it) and it's not bad. Smooth, but not as smooth as Kings/Radflo.

I would just go with the 5100's in your case because it's a cheaper option for decent upgrade in ride quality. If you have extra cash laying around, Kings? lol jk

And here are some information on those OME springs:

I've got 25K on this set up with the 600lb. spring. Full armor , bumpers ,
winch , a few hundred lbs of tools , jack , etc. 2.5 in. lift .
It's been awesome , plush and drives great on the road and off .
