Advice Choosing Between Two 3rd Gens (98 & 99)

Nice pick up. Looks exactly like mine when I started. As others said, you can find a newer console and switch them out pretty easily, I did that with my wife's 98. Her antenna also wasn't working, and it was slightly bent, so I just broke it off about 6 inches above the base...haven't had any problems with reception. You can also change it out with a whip antenna.
And as masphx said, white is a very good color to have. With a days worth of work and a few bucks, you can have your paint looking brand new!

wow $5k sounds like a great deal for the shape it's in, body condition looks really straight and to get it with new BFGs is awesome! Agree with another here recommending one of those black flexible whip antennas. The electric one has little plastic teeth on a gear motor, so you can fix them but they always have a finite life and eventually break again.
And if you want to improve the look of those BFGs, you can always have a tire shop reverse them and bring out those gorgeous raised white letters, Ha! (to bring up the tired old argument of "white letters In or Out") :
But seriously another guy on here took those same alloys you have and painted them black, looks pretty cool.
