Advice Needed - Rigid Industries Fog Light Install

So I'm really on the fence about installing Rigid's LED fogs on my 16' Trail. This would be my first install on my own so I'm slightly hesitant. Does anyone have any advice on the install process, which model has worked best for you, and should I go with white or amber? Any help is much appreciated!

I just replaced my stock fogs with BD Squadron Sports a few weeks ago. It's not bad at all, just work nice and slow. I've got some notes on my build page. It's not too bad and I have very limited mechanical experience.

Don't do it at night like I did. Get a bright small portable light that you can put up under the skid to help you see.

i have baja squadron sports in wide driving

rigid cubes in sae fog pattern

rigid amber cubes

if you want something for daily driving. definitely do the rigid cubes in sae fog pattern. everything else will have too much glare for city driving/daily use

another choice would be morimoto fogs which also come in a sae fog pattern.

I run the rigid cubes in sae fog, and will probably swap over to the rigid bars in sae fog pattern.

Really like the Bajas. Solid well built light. I went with white. But... they are way too bright for the suburbs, which is where I live. I have the Squadron Sports and I've heard the Squadron Pros are at least twice as bright. I never turn them on with oncoming traffic but they are awesome lights.

another choice would be morimoto fogs which also come in a sae fog pattern.

I have the Morimoto fogs and am satisfied with them, but barely. I would very much like a better fit and more light.

They are OK, and I do not regret them at all, but I would not buy another set.

Of course, they may be as bright as any other SAE fogs, and I might not be impressed by the Rigid SAE fogs either.

After looking more in to the Baja Designs, I'm starting to like the squadron sport driving/combo. Plus they're cheaper than the Rigid D-series pro driving including the mounts.

Very straightforward install, took me about 45 minutes and kept the bumper on. Make sure to tie up any of the wires so they don't hang or get caught and use wire loom and tape off the connectors. I got plug and play harnesses from caliraised to make it easy.

Also, there is a plastic cover over the passenger side fog light, it will be removed and not needed.

That plastic cover over the passenger fog light was a PITA to get off.

I installed the BD squadron, fog light pattern. It's easy. Take your time. The directions that come with the adapter kit are not that clear. But, you should be able to figure it out.

The driving light pattern will probably be too bright for city driving. I have had success with the fog pattern. I live in a city. On two lane roads with 25 mph, it's too bright. On two lane roads with a median dividing the lanes, it's not a problem. It's definitely not a problem on the highway either. You'll have to use your judgement. Definitely worth purchasing IMO.

If I go with the driving light pattern are you able to aim them slightly downward? or are they fixed pointing straight ahead?

Get the Rigid DOT fog lights. install is annoying, but simple. I did not remove the bumper. The cutoff on the rigids is phenomenal, hence being DOT/sae compliant. IMO they are better then the amber baja designs squadron sport combo pods that i have on my f250.

The install is fairly easy, I found no need to remove the bumper, just pull back the liner and hold it in place with a bungee cord. Get these from amazon (H11) and there is no wiring work really, just plug and play.

I did have to reverse the polarity on mine, which is super easy to do and the seller has a diagram on there. I actually got the midnight pro Rigids in a spot beam - they fit my needs better, I never used the fog lights for fog, but I rip around in the desert at night on a semi regular basis and I didn't get much distance out of my light bar so these have been awesome. My only complaint is that they're a little tricky to aim on the truck, but with a little patience it's not bad.
Now it's super easy to flash people that cut me off.

I just did this mod using the Dually Pro D2’s in driving pattern. They work great and are not as blinding as everyone thinks. I love them.

Hey I’m super late, but are you able to install these and wire them independently of the headlights? I’d like to use my fogs without my headlights sometimes by using a switch in one of my open switch spots. Do the DOT approved ones make that easy?

you'd have to run power, relay, and a wire to the switch thru the firewall. it was easier for me to run them on the fog light switch since the wiring is already there at the OEM fog lights. I'm sure theres a "jumper" wiring mod you can do in the fuse box to make the fog light switch be independent of the headlights though.

The SAE Rigid's are awesome lights *if* you can aim them down. But, you wont be able too. There is virtually no adjustment. And, they are HEAVY! Mounting sucks. Two shallow holes in plastic using screws. You will get flashed all the time and they will shake and rattle on trails. Anyone that says otherwise is in denial.

No first hand experience with Bajas but I hear even the weakest ones are too bright for the streets.

Morimoto bulbs have some dumba$$ electric fans, motors that are loud and I imagine will die the second they get wet.

KC replacement housings/bulbs (led) in amber suck. Insufficient ammount of dark light. Can't speak for the white ones.

Bottom line? There no really good replacement for our fogs out there that I know of yet. Someone correct me.... I'm still looking.

I ended up going with BD's squadron sports in amber driving/combo. I haven't had any issues with them so far. Can't attest to stability on-trail since I haven't wheeled with them yet, but the amber really helps when the weather goes to shit. I've used them in heavy rain and fog at night and the amber light cuts through it easily.
