Advice needed

I am looking at buying a 4runner as a project third vehicle but i am wondering if this is a good deal or not. I found a 94 4runner with a blown head gasket that also needs new cv boots with the 3.0 4x4 and a 91 runner 4x4 with a spun bearing with the 22re 4cy for $2000 for both. Im just asking for opinions and advice. Is this too much work and money to be worth the repairs? How is the 3.0 v6 compared to the 22re 4cy? What would they be worth fixed up?

both for 200 grand is too much in my opinion.
3.0 is dog slow and way under powered.
22re is more reliable but can cost you some serious money to get good HP.
1400 is what i would pay for two rust free trucks that dont run, if they have rust then it would be 800-1000 for both depending on condition.
both would make good candidates for a 3.4l v6 swap if you really want 18mpg and much more power but thats an easy 5000$ + to do.

look for a running 85-95 you can get them all day long for 2000 running. more $$$ for better condition of course

Thanks for the advice. I dont really car too much about getting a ton of horse power or anything i just want a good solid truck to drive and play around with. I dont really want to dump a ton of money in it either. So what im getting is if i could get both for $1400 the 4cyl is the better of the two as far as motors for reliability? The 3.0 is running but needs a new head gasket. They both seem in good shape as far as the pictures go. But i just dont want to get into something that isnt worth all the repairs and work.

You've basically got two parts trucks there, and a parts truck isn't really worth more than $500. If one of them was in really good condition otherwise, I might go as high as $1200 for the pair, but probably not.

If you do this, the 22re is a little more reliable and easier to work on and the 3.0 will make more power. It'll be much easier to repair the head gasket on the 3.0 than rebuild the 22RE. If it were in good mechanical and cosmetic shape and ready to drive, the 3.0 truck could be worth $2000 to $2500, the 22RE truck probably a little more, both depending on condition and your local prices of course.
