Advice on a purchase

Hi,
Found a guy selling an A/T transmission and the transfer case out of a 97 4runner for $100. He said he bought it from another seller and was told it is in good condition. It sat few years on a storage.

Any advice? My 97 4runner got 210K miles with no transmission issues at all. Should I buy it and keep it as a spare? my runner stays with me.

If you know the AISIN par number that came for 97 4runner 4x4 A/T , please let me know. I might go check it out today or tomorrow.

Personally, I don't think you'd ever use it. 210k miles on an auto with no issues is not a big deal. The 96-00 transmissions are less complex as well so less to break.

The clutch discs start to brake down after 3yrs of not soaking in trans fluid, new discs or in a used unit that r sitting unused, the AFT acts as a stabilizer that stop said in a unit being used. Similar to coolant on bi-metal engine head gaskets and electrolysis.
