advice on buying a '98 325 convert.

hey guys,
I know the 325 isn't a toyota, but I trust yall's opinions! Just got a line on a '98 325 convertible with 84k on the clock. The seller is askink $11,500, which I feel is too high to start with, but she also told me that there are some cosmetic problems including a "small" tear in the top.

I wanted to see if anybody had any info on this generation bmw, and what I should be looking for during the test drive. Oh yea, the lady said she has to be in the car during to test drive, so I won't be able to dog it out or anything fun.

IMHO, i would not get it...an old BMW (a bit high mileage) is just asking for your wallet. (Oh yeah, this is coming from a former BMW owner.)

funny that yall were saying it would be expensive to own, cause I got an email from the lady before i was supposed to go drive it saying the car wouldn't start! that in and of itself isn't a very good omen, but she went on to say that she had to order a new battery from bmw and probably wouldn't have it running again til sometime this week!
