Advice on lights

So ever since I bought my 4runner I installed the silverstar bright bulbs in and I always drive with my high beams on and never get flashed - meaning the 'foggy' headlights on my '97 suck that badly.

I would like to buy some driving/fog lights to use with my normal lights to see better at night. I was thinking of Hella 500ff/700ff but they are "off road" only.
If I want to install fog/driving lights which ones should I go with?
I'm also confused if fog/driving lights are legal. At night I notice a lot of cars/trucks have what looks like to be stock fog lights on (but the beam is white not yellow). I'm in MI by the way.

Also, I thought about doing an HID retrofit but I don't know if I'm up to the challenge. I would gladly buy a retrofit set from a member on here who would like to upgrade to another set.

the difference atleast in California is that no vehicle shall have more than forward facing driving/fog lights. And in addition to that it all depends on the wattage of the the bulbs in the lighting housing. I believe it is not to exceed 55 watts before they deem it a "off road light" thats the trick and aiming them correct is key too. For instance i have the headlights and in addition piaa 520 down below they are great for the snow and foul weather in general. They arnt blinding to other drivers on the road so its a legal deal. And im sure if you drive with them on in rural areas you wont get hassled unless you fail to dim for oncoming vehicles, i suppose. And there the Ion crystal fog flavor of light so yellow beam. I would believe a pretty conventional light set up would be fine legally for you.

99-02 headlights and hella 700s with 100w bulbs dont reccomend useing the harness the lights come with i have them come on with the high beams worked great plenty of light

I had the yellowed lenses on my 98 Taco and used I believe a Mothers product to clean them up and it worked great. THe lenses were clear and made a considerable improvement in visibility. My 4Runner does not have the same issue so havnt needed to do it on this vehicle. As far as driving lights I would go with some small ones actually labeled as driving or fog.

yes lower lights are micro de's got them dirt cheap like $15 bucks i wanna put a hid kit in them question is do i want yellow or white

i would still like to do a set of piaa 525's on the bumper since they have a high and low beam feature with 520 ion crystal fogs below

In my state (NJ), it's not just wattage. Road legal lights (aftermarket and factory) all have DOT numbers molded into the lens or the lens housing. No DOT number means off-road only which means an inspection warning and a possible cite if used on road. (It used to be an inspection fail just to have them on the car.) I know this because I got dinged for my road-legal yellow Hella fogs that had the number molded on the bottom of the lens surround and it is difficult to see the way they are mounted.

i wish sometimes CA had yearly vehicle inspections because some of these jalopy pieces of poop that leak oil and antifreeze for me to slip on my motorcycle with. But thats why we have thousands of vehicle codes to develop probable cause on to get those kinds of things to worked out.

welllll no snow up here but Sac got some thats lame in of its self haha grandma called me telling me so but i am headed up to susanville (blaaaahhhh) to close down my parents business down for the winter they have snow i know that much. And i have to visit a friend in Portola they got snow everywhere but Redding has it. Oh well it will come soon. haha, better.

first id recommend if your stock headlights are foggy, take them somewhere and get them polished and it will make them like new. even walmart is doing it now and its real cheap. i run Hella 500's and along with my brights it makes a HUGE difference
