Ok so i am looking at this 4runner its 95 sr5 v6, manuel tranny, 100k miles 4" suspension lift, 3" body, 36" tires, regeared, new water pump, timing belt, and seals, Stereo system, alarm, all the goodies, and its in great shape. So is it worth $9,000?

For comparison, I recently sold a 95 Toyota Landcruiser with 136K miles, BFG AT/KO's 3/4 thread left, all new hoses, belts, new plug wires, new Old man Emu shocks and steering stablizer, all new fluids, synthetics throughout the drivetrain, looked like new (never been off road) mall cruiser. Leather interior, all options, paint looked like new. It had the 4.5 liter straight six that lasts forever. I sold it for $10,500. Hope this helps give you some perspective, the Landcruiser cost at least $20,000 more new then the 4runner you are looking at, plus it is built like a brick $hit house.

Take your money and run!! Seriously. I wouldn't waste any money on a 2nd gen 4runner unless you have another engine sitting around you want to put in it. My 4runner has already gone through a headgasket (and it was a late model 1995 which are supposed to be immune to the problem). My friend's 1994 also blew a hg. The repair for that is in the ballpark of $2k.

The guy selling you the 4runner is probably aware of this problem and is trying to offload it to you. I'd check under the oil cap before you buy it

My advice.....Save some more money and buy a 3rd gen 4runner with the 3.4L 5VZFE. Much more reliable, better power, and the HG won't blow.

Perhaps thats why there is a HG recall? The 2nd gen is a solid platform with the weak point of the powerplant. It is known for blowing the head gasket on the passenger side mainly. Other then that the 3.0 could last several hundred thousand miles. I payed 5K for my 95' that was almost fully stock, It KBB value was about 4500 something like that but 5k seemed fair to me. With minor repairs and some care that runner will last you many years to come.

9000 might be a little much. If you want it test drive it and offer them what you think, I would say a little less then the asking price.

absolute there is a HG recall for early 3rd gen's I believe. HG's are just a weak point of toyota.
