Advice Please

So I am thinking about doing some work on the runner. I am going to get new springs (the 99 height ones) from OME. Also need to do new shocks. My question is how hard is the install. I think on his site there was something about buying the front coilovers pre-assembled, is this worth it or is it easy enough?? What sort of tools am I going to be looking at to knock this out. Like I said, new springs for 1"lift and some new shocks all the way around. Thanks!!! :banana:

You'll need spring compressors, floor jack/ stands, basic hand tools. You can rent spring compressors at certain auto parts stores. Not too difficult if you're mechanically inclined.

You can pay extra to have them installed too ($100 extra I believe?) or you can buy the parts & take them to your local independent shop & they'll assemble the coils & shocks for about half that.

I don't think OME has 1" coils either. The 906 for the rear will lift your 2002 2", and the 881 will be in that ballpark as well. I think you'd have to get a set of used 99 talls from someone. Hope that helps with your decisions.

Yes, you'll only need the compressors to assemble the fronts. The over all install is pretty straight forward and easy. You'll also need your factory bottle jack for the front and its easier to just cut your rear shocks off rather then fight rusted nuts. So add a sawsall to the list of tools needed. Assembling the front struts isn't hard either but spring compressors aren't the safest things to play with, so if your on the fence just take them to a shop and have em assembled for you.

Yes. The rears are very easy to get in. The fronts are a bit of a pain but not awful. In my opinion, it's worth it to buy them pre-assembled. The rented compressors aren't great, I broke one when replacing my front shocks and reusing my 190K mile '99 tall springs on my last runner. New springs will be even tougher. Also, if you buy them preassembled, you get all new hardware with them. The actual install ins't too bad though, you can knock it out in your garage in a few hours.

Also, OME doesn't make 1" lift springs, if you want the '99 Tall Springs, you'll have to find a set used. I just out 99' Tall Springs in my '97 Limited, I actually gained almost 2' of lift because my stock springs were so beat.

I actually used the compressors to remove and install the rear springs. The rear didn't drop enough for me to just let them fall out so I just compressed them about 1 inch and worked just fine. About an extra 30 min of work but it did the job. I actually found the fronts much easier to do than the rears. Did one side and a time and used the bottle jack method. Very easy to do. Probably helped that my rig has spent it's entire life in CO with no rust on the bolts.

I'm so frustrated right now. I had found a website that had everything I wanted. They sold 1" lift springs, new shocks all around, and would assemble the coilovers for a charge. Now I can not find the site! Making me so mad. maybe i can find it and get back with you guys

and here are the rears:

Here are the part numbers, just go looking:

You could get it all pre-assembled from Sonoran Steel with Tokkicos (what I have on mine), but the price is ridiculous--better to DIY:

I agree, buy pre-assembled or have a shop put the fronts together. I failed miserably with the cheap compressors and they are scary as hell. The rest is easy.

Does anyone know what the quality of the included shocks are?? I have experience with bilstein 5100's and want to know if they are similar quality. These master r/t's or whatever tokico. don't know anything about them

I believe those Tokiko shocks are the OEM shocks. Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they are. Honestly, for $700, you could do better. I got 4 Bilsteins from AJUSA for $275 shipped. I know 99 Tall springs can be had for $200 ish. Personally, I'd piece it together rather than blow $700 on that kit.

thanks for the info. i think bilsteins are better quality than the OEM's.

so do you have a link for all that crap that is needed to assemble the front struts???

gonna piece together my own kit I guess. 99 springs, bilstein 5100's, and whatever additional parts I need to assemble the fronts. I will most likely pay someone to assemble them, then do the rest of the install myself
