Help, my butt is sagging!
Background: 2010 SR5 with 3rd row, 57,000 miles. Front Bilstein 5100s at .80", rest of the suspension is factory stock. KO2s 265s on Trail wheels, spacers. Other relevant modifications: Slee rock-sliders, installed more as a step-up for the kids and side impact protection (tested twice!) than actually sliding on rocks.
I got the 5100s for the purposes of leveling and getting rid of the body dive under braking.
My "off-roading" is limited to Boston's crappy roads, dirt roads in the White Mountains that can be conquered in any minivan, and un-plowed snow-covered roads - those I do all the time as my job requires me to be available during snow emergencies, I even have a state ID that allows me to drive during snow emergencies. :hat:
Here's the thing. With the front 5100s at 0.80" and some added weight, my 4Runner looks like it's slanted towards to the back, also known as reverse rake. When loaded with stuff, which happens often, the butt really sags.
I understand that my shocks are due for replacement. My plan is to get the Bilstein 6112 (front spring/shock combo) and rear 5160 shocks (TRD Pro-like set-up), or something equivalent. But all the kits I see exclude the rear springs.
My questions are:
- Will new 5160s prevent or reduce the butt drop?
- Should I consider new/different rear springs, and if so, what kind? (I don't want much of a lift)
- Should I leave my stock springs in and add spacer with the 5160s?
- I thought of AirLift helper springs but I'm not sold on the idea for various reasons.
I don't really want a lift a kit but I'm fine with a little lift, 1-1.5". I often park in city garages with low clearances. I don't "off-road" like some hard core people here do. When I do off-road, the stock 4Runner's abilities are fine. (I've taken off-road driving classes and spent a month in Africa in a D110).
