Hi everyone. I'm looking for a 2010-2011 Toyota 4Runner V6-4.0L. Here at aFe Power, we are designing a new intake system for the 5th generation 4Runner, but we need to get a vehicle in so that we can take photos, do a final test fit, dyno test, and perform some additional testing. If you are interested, and you are located near the Corona California area, then please let me know. The owner of the test vehicle will receive a free Stage-2 sealed air intake system for their new 4Runner!

Its too bad I just slapped the TRD intake on...Im sure someone will be getting in contact with you guys. I head out that direction all the time.
 
I have a 4runner Trail and am located in Norco. Looks like you already have a reply....but if you need a backup let me know.
 
there goes the theory that the TRD intake was being designed by aFe, eh? but really good news to hear that there will be yet another option available. and this on the heels of Lucrum announcing their winch mount is an official "go." seems the aftermarket support for the 5G has been at a pretty good clip so far, hasn't it?

i've been holding off on grabbing the TRD CAI, so i'm really looking forward to seeing aFe's kit. procrastination pays! :naughty:

Justin replied to my email, unfortunately someone beat me to the punch :dammit:but he said I am the primary back-up. I had a few general questions that he answered thoroughly. Below is an excerpt from our correspondence to give you all an idea of the estimated timeline for the intake to reach full production for retail sale. It seems AFE will be doing more development work and data collection than TRD, so like sandcrawler, I'm glad I didn't jump so quick when TRD finally released theirs. Hopefully AFE can create a product that will give us actual performance gains.

I may have found another contact already, but because you are so close I will keep you as a primary backup.
1. I would need the vehicle for about a week.
2. Unfortunately we do not work on the weekends. I can give you a loaner vehicle to drive during the period that we are doing the testing.
3. We would pick up the vehicle, or you can drop it off here at our facility in Corona, and we would test fit our prototyped intake on your vehicle. After we confirm fitment, we do testing on a flow bench so that we can prove that the intake flows better but it wont lean out the engine too much. Once we confirm that the intake is safe for the vehicle then we will dyno test the vehicle with the intake on it. At this point, we will return the vehicle to its stock configuration and return it to you. We can send out our design to have a mold made and then we can make a first article sample (this can take up to 4-6 weeks). After we receive the first article sample, we will need to get your vehicle back in to test the new parts. We will take all of our installation photos at this time, too. After we release the intake kit, I either send you an intake and you can install it, or I can get the vehicle back in to do the final install. After that, we're done!
4. You would receive a brand new production intake after the kit is released.

I hope this email helped clear up a lot of questions for you. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

That sucks, I sent an email shortly before you, yet I haven't gotten a response back. So whoever got this opportunity must have been pretty quick in notifying Justin. Oh Well!

haha, you should have seen the look on her face after I told her I am loaning the truck to another shop. I just gave her a big grin and walked away...

They did the test fitting a couple of weeks ago and said that the next step was to do a 3D print out of the protoype intake tube. I should be hearing back from them soon for the second test fit. On a side note they gave me one of the company trucks as a loaner for the week (6.? ltr turbo diesel with a full fabtech lift. It was awesome!! Sorry guys had to rub it in a little. Lol
I will email him right now for a more precise update.

Hey Dlak, seeing that Outdoor Logic is fabricating your rear bumper at the moment (very nice btw), what is the status of this project? Inquiring minds want to know :hungry:

Hey Snow&surf, I've had the prototype on my truck for the last 4 weeks. I will be dropping the truck off with them in the next week and half for the final testing. The truck was put on the dyno with the stock intake and will be put on the dyno one more time once I return the truck with the aftermarket intake. The best part is that we actually get dyno results!
Thanks yeah I have a Moab trip coming up in the next three weeks so I had to get them to build me a rear tire carrier before the trip. They have also built me a roof rack that will be done the same time the rtc is done. Are you going to join everyone on the so-cal meet up?

Nice. I'm glad aFe is putting some R&D and testing into our CAI. Hopefully we'll see performance gains!

I've been planning on it and I"m stoked my wife wants to join me. The only reason I may not go is if the builder releases the lot for the new house we want that weekend. Lot reservations are on a first-come-first-serve basis and they always release them on a Saturday. They only build 2-3 homes per phase and the model we want will be one of them. Hopefully everything will work out and I can join the fun and reserve my new home! If not, I'm sure TheSentinel won't mind organizing another meet :biggrin2:
