After market lift gate for 2nd gen?

I know this might sound a little off the deep end. But I was wondering if any one knows if by chance they make an aftermarket lift gate (hatch) for the 2nd gen like the 3rd and 4th gens have.

Or if anyone makes a hinge conversion so the tailgate would tilt down and swing open, like the old wagons did. This would make it a lot easier to load things into a lifted truck, not having to reach over the tailgate folded down.

I like the tailgate myself. I just need a new window switch for the inside. I like being able to drop the rear glass on hot days.

You could fab a swing out hinge system if you have the skills...or pay someone who does to do it. Be somehting cool to take pics of, maybe do a write up story for it, sell it to the off-road mags and make back some of your cost! I'd like to see that anyway.

Swing out

I looked at me 4runner the other day to see how much work it would be to make the gate swing and drop.

I would be a lot of work but could be done. The wire harness is on the drivers side of the gate, but it is a little to far to the center. So that would have to be moved or lengthend, to allow for the gate to swing. And then there is the little metal bar that goes under the truck, basically a spring to make up for the weight of the gate with glass. The would have to come out, I don't think you could keep it with the door swinging out

Of course all just a thought. Sometimes not worth doing.
