After Rollover - Need Advaice

Hello Friends,

After saving money for about 4 years finally i let my 1985 Corolla go away and bought this wonderful 2.7 Manual 4x4 4runner. Its having 230K on it still running strong.

I purchased it from California USA in October 2014 and received it on mid Feb.2015.
I kept the last month doing basic maintenance starting from new spark plugs set to changing trans+diff fluids. (as i was just out of hospital my physical movement was minimum)

Unfortunately i rolled it over before i reach 1500 miles with it. (truck was in perfect condition with very great traction and handling but a curved street with slippy materials on the curved path made us loose control and jump the making three rolls as far as i remember)

The good news that there is no single scratch on me, my wife and my twin 3yrs old daughters, im glad that my family are safe and feeling proud that i choose 4runner to be my ride. God bless strong steel.

Im attaching the photo for your review and advice of how worthy is to repair it. Or maybe to repair and sell it then buy another one.
Mechanically its working fine and i bought already the rear broken axcel from junkyard.

Im not new to this forum as im following most of the 3rd gen threads but this is the first time im posting,, am not sure that i uploaded the photos correctly but will see.

Please advice. (please keep in mind that body work will take around $1,000) not sure as the car still a different city, i had to leave it to do medical checkups on my family

Glad everyone is safe and sound after that. Very lucky!

I wouldn't even consider repairing that. The list of potential issues after a repair that extensive is just huge. Everything from bent axles to leaking windows, to abnormal tire wear.

Scrap her and find another.
 
First and foremost, I am glad that nobody was hurt!!

How hard is it to get another one? It sounds like you waited quite a while to get this one!!

Do you have safety inspections over there? If not, I would take it to a body shop and have them straighten the roof and a-pillars until you can get a front windshield back in it. Replace the broken glass, replace the pass door, get a can of spray paint to make it match and keep driving it. Oh... and SLOW DOWN, it doesn't handle like a Toyota Corolla.

In the US our safety inspections and laws would never allow us to get away with doing that and it would be a total loss, or an offroad only trail rig. I don't know the vehicle safety laws in Yemen though...?

Well said my friend,, even me was thinking about not to keep it.
I cannot live with a truck which is having a bushing issue or something clunks especially in the front, the truck was in perfect condition and i was having a ton of repairs and preventative maintenances to be done in April.
Now with its current condition even after repair i would never drive it confidentially.

Thank you for your advice,, leaking windows can becomes a serois issue since i made a hand-made sunroof on my 1985 corolla.

Im living in Yemen, we dont have any sort of safety regulation or speed limits even, country is collapsing.. its like Afghanistan + Iraq combined.

One of the successful business now is some people buying destroyed cars from junkyard then repair it, paint it the sell it for the people.

my car is came from 1998 TOYOTA 4RUNNER/SR - Copart
i waited long time to save money then waited long time to find a good one. (i don't care about high mileage as i do mechanical stuff at home )

anyway repairing it would cost me around $1,500 then can sell it in the local market and would even better than the average condition of similar truck in the market. (hard to believe yeah?)
 
Maybe you can get it driveable, and find another one that you like, buy that one and continue to drive the old one until the new one arrives? Then you could sell the old one and have an undamaged 4Runner without being without a car for months.

It's funny you should mention that, in my travels I've seen that done in other parts of the world as well.

That being said, I think if you keep the vehicle you will have issue after issue and it will never be the same again. I would cut your losses and sell and see what you are able to get for it. It may be more worthwhile selling as parts rather than trying to fix it and then sell, but not sure how that works over there. Here you could part out a 4Runner with a running engine for about $2,000 if you have the time.
 
I heard things are getting tense at Yemen. US pulled out all of its special forces few days ago.

I think typical advices from US are not going to apply to you so I suggest find a good mechanic/body shop to fix it. It actually doesnt look that bad considering it rolled 3 times.
 
the frame is surely twisted, after a roll like that. glad to hear you are ok. also did you say the rear axle broke but the front was fine? ifs for the win then haha.

Anyway i will have to repair it to sell it,, this is a must. So im think when repair it with maybe cut and weld the a-pillar will see how it rides then i would be able to tell whether there is something wrong with it.

Parting it out is not an option here actually drive it as it is would be better.

For the rear axle sorry for my incorrect description, the rear left axle shaft broke out of the hub place. i got one already and shipped to city where the car is. it will be drivable tomorrow by noon time to body shop.

And yes, my worst fear is that the frame might be twisted and all those stuff which are results of that.

will have to repair it and get a similar one when i can, the only issue is 2.7 manual 4x4s are hard to find. Yes we found two during the last year but the auction price gone mad.

How about find a 4cyl runner that has a blown motor and maybe bad interior. Ship it over there swap the stuff you need/want and then let the damaged runner go in that market?

I'm sorry to hear what happen to you and your truck Im glad your family did not get hurt much in regards to the truck I would not fix it have you thought of dismantling the vehicle and sell by parts?? maybe with a little more money you can buy another one?? dont you think
 
i dont know if this helps at all but the random swerving could have been caused by the bad springs that toyota recalled. there was a recall for 96-98 involving springs.

a while ago I collected some poll and combined in one photo about 4runner culture then distributed it among my fiends through WatsApp just for fun,, now you guys are confirming that.

For the 70 series its very nice and good off road capabilities, however im a 4runner guy,, when i decided that i need an SUV and did alot of research comparing NISSAN-Pathfinder vs JEEP-Grand Cherokee vs TOYOTA-4runner,, all results went directly to the 4runner. And it mostly suits my style and personality + what just happened i loved it more.

One of my friend called me when he saw the photos on facebook he confirmed that its only one roll not three..! so i have to stop make the things bigger.

first roll started on driver side and it is clear that its intacted,, passenger side took a lot of damage, i found this clip on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjhNnEL26Vs its almost how its started with me but with a jump after beginning of loosing control.

swapping parts to make one good and sell the other will just maximize my frustration.

nope, mine was factory default without RR-Elocker, was my plan for next year to install the TOYOTA E-locker or the ARB airlocker.

I had a lot of plans for this truck starting with the ARB front bumper in June..

shipping to Yemen is $1,000 - $1,400 depends on the state, anyway the only thing will work with me is purchasing from the auction
for me it was $3,300purchse + $1,100shipping + $4,000customs+tax = $8,400 total..

currently i cannot go forward with any decision until i repair mine and see how will it ride, if its good then keep it, if its bad then sell it and save some cash to buy another one.

that video was heartbreaking... it was hard to watch yet i watched it like 10x.

shipping isn't bad but the tax is insane!!
