Aftermarket 3rd row seat

Has anybody here had luck with an aftermarket 3rd row seat? I've been told there are companies out there that make them, but I've had no luck finding any. What's required to make them legal? A seatbelt?

no aftermarket 3rd rows available for 4Runner...

I did some checking a while back, and even the companies previously mentioned only make seats for Yukons, Tahoes, Suburbans, Expeditions, Explorers (new model). No 4Runner seats.

One thing the USA Today article neglects to mention about 3rd row in SUVs is the contact height. SUV's will have a higher survival rate and a lower injury rate because the bumper is higher than most vehicles contacting it, whereas most minivans have bumper heights the same or lower than the vehicles hitting it. Also worth mentioning, most SUVs 3rd row seats bolt directly to the floor (i.e. no frame for additional flex) where all minivans have seats that attach to frames.

Good article, but it made me think of something else.

What about these small SUVs like the liberty, or Rav4. I wonder if the second row seats are comparable close to some of these third row seats.

It has made me think twice about the third row option in the 04's

I saw a mini cooper this morning and those back seats are super close to the back window!

Why put anyone in risk especially your kids. I've seen these third tow seats and they don't look to strong.
