the weight difference between the full stock setup and new bumper is less than 30lbs. i know our trucks are bricks anyways so i'm trying to confirm, or at least reassure myself that its an aerodynamic issue and not a mystery mechanical one. and, a big part of rocket science is aerodynamics

I think 30lbs is probably very conservative from a stock tin bumper to a nice bumper. But even at that....30lbs = roughly 3hp lost. You are correct though....there is likely a bit of aerodynamics involved with rocket science!

I don't know how many tanks your drop in MPG is based off of, but give it a few more and see if it stays the same.

For me weight doesn't seem to change MPG that much, but speed and type of driving (city/hwy) does greatly. Adding a roof rack has decreased it just a little, but not much, 1 MPG at most. I don't have an aftermarket bumper yet, but perhaps you are catching a little more wind with the new bumper.

I understand the concern, but I wouldn't worry about it too much unless the drop in MPG is consistent over 4+ tanks of gas.

I have a very similar build to clund21 and similar gas mpg. I'm more like 19 at 65-70 while being light on the gas pedal and 16 on strictly highway.

I didn't notice any significant change with my tube bumper. 19 at 70-75 on the interstate and 15 in strictly city driving

I have the stock bumper and I get as low as 10mpg grannying it... What's going on here? This tank I did manage to get almost 18mpg(coasting a lot), my highest yet!
