Aftermarket Drop In Filter

Hey guys, looking to change my air filter, i've searched ALOT and had a question about the aFe replacement drop in filter. I couldnt find any info when searching. I'm not gonna spring for the K&N since it MAY (not neccessarily will) taint my MAF, and I would like something a little better flowing than the stock cotton ones (yes i know the toyota engineers are smart, but they didn't plan for the Deckplate & ISR mod! =D). the aFe seems like the best of all worlds, good flowing, no oiling, and long lasting. I apologize if I overlooked a discussion/review about it.

I have heard the True Flow air filter is the one to get.
Either that or the Amsoil one.

Yeah, i contacted Burtman Industries and did some minor searching and couldnt find any in stock. Ended up gettting a Wix replacement, I don't mind dropping $20 bucks every year on an air filter and hopefully it performs decent. Thanks for the help guys.
 
I have been running a K&N for 6-8 years. The key is to "oil sparingly", the exact words of the tech at K&N. Too much oil and it'll be sucked thru and collect on the MAF and cause poor gas mileage. I clean my MAF ~every year, I would no matter what filter I use.
 
if you do any offroad driving or driving in dusty environments stay away from the oiled air filters. i about shat myself when i pulled off my K&N filter and saw how much dirt was inside my intake tube. serious particle bypass when used in a dusty environment

Exactly, better flowing simply means more particles are getting by.

Also, I'm told to stay away from HKS as well. The flow very well but offer the same filtration as a $10 HAVAC furnace filter. (none)

Hmmm, I wonder if the deposits he was getting is just oil blow back or engine crud from his crankcase breather?

Also, maybe he should have tested the fram, those little pieces of fram seem to have caught more dirt than the other filters, my OEM filter has 10,000 on it and is no where near that dirty!!
