Aftermarket Grills

Saw a 4th Gen a week or so ago with an aftermarket grill/insert. Was kinda square-ish design with an fully opened center. Any idea where I might could find this grill? Who sells aftermarket grills and inserts for the 4th Gen? Any one have an aftermarket install?

Jaos makes one that kind of looks similar but is super expensive.

I've known about the Jaos one for a long time but it expensive. doesn't even come painted. Thanks for the heads up Blairb, I might try this as I'm saving for some special mods. I might even try to paint it!

I keep debating if I should keep the chrome or paint it satin black. I am still torn

The painter that painted my mirrors says that the satin black wont stay on the chrome. I really hope he's wrong but since he's a pro I'm taking his word on it. however I really think the satin black would go good with your truck. on mine umm... I don't know.

I'm working on the same thing you have. I bought a spare grill online and did some fiberglass patching on the inside yesterday, bondo later today but I've already sanded down the chrome so I can get it color keyed(silver).

Anyone know what I might expect to pay to have something this small painted.

The second photo with the black runner, I sorry, SURF has a side view mirror (mounted at the front part of the driver's side fender). Does anyone know where I can get one ? (apart from heading to Japan and picking one up, lol). The surfs I had in Peru had them and were pretty cool!

Ya I saw them when I was in South America as well. I thought they were super cool, but I feel like you would get looked at like an idiot here in America.

EDIT: And it's actually for the passenger's side. It really wouldn't make sense to get one because it would be mounted to your driver's side, which sort of defeats the purpose.

The only two places that I can think of that sell stuff for Hilux surfs are Used Cars from Japan. Used Cars Exporter or this Ebay store. Combine Ship OK Japan to Worldwide items - Get great deals on PRIUS ZVW30 items on eBay Stores!

Its something different. They are on all/most SUVs over in Japan. When they import them used to south america, they keep the mirror on. It's subjective, I personally think brushguards look/are wierd. They add TONS of weight, add lots of wind resistance, they rust, etc etc. Now, if they are actually in use for off road situations, then they are fine. I have one on my Grand Cherokee and regretted it the second day I had it.......This is my opinion.

I know, I had 2 of them (see my sig). In Peru, they modify the dashboard/steering to make it a LEFT hand drive. So yeah, you are correct, the mirror would be opposite of the drivers side. When I had my surfs, the mirror stayed and yes, didn't have a real purpose but I thought it looked cool...MUCH better looking than a brushguard !!! :zoom:
