Aftermarket head unit in a 99 limited

Quick question, I want to install an aftermarket head unit in my runner. My 99 limited has the factory amp, is it a simple wiring job (harness) or do you need something else to make it work with factory amp? I dont really want to take the dash apart and find I need something else to make it work! Any pics or pointing me in the direction of a "write up" would be appreciated! I did search for a while, but didnt find exactly what I was looking for!

Just unplug the amp connector and use the simple wiring job there (harness) The amp should be in the same general area as you head unit. Just remove the head unit and the amp altogether.

I bought an Eclipse nav unit from a member here and it was 100% plug and play on my 99 limited.

X2, remove the factory head unit and amp, the 2 wiring harnesses that went into the amp now plug into your deck install harnesses, and you're done.

Ok, thanks very much. You are saying that you remove the amp as well? So, the replacement head unit will power the speakers on its own. I dont know the specs for the factory amp, but will a decently powered head unit be enough to give at least equal sound as the factory unit? Reason I'm asking is that I want to use other devices such as a blackberry for music, plus my factory unit doesnt like burnt cd's!

Yep. Yank the amp out as well. Most aftermarket decks have internal power that will be more than what's in there stock. There are some decks that assume you will be adding additional power via amps and aren't powered. Just look at the specs of the deck to see.
