Aftermarket Headlights

When I had the FJ 60 and the 91 4WD truck, the IPF and Hella aftermarket drop in replacements for the stock sealed beams were outstanding, in terms of light output and beam spread, which is all that matters.
I'd love to get the equivalent lighting power on my 3rd gen 4R.
Unfortunately, quantifying the light output and beam are virtually impossible with the worthless measurements(Lumens, anyone?) provided by the industry and the well-meaning but ultimately unsatifactory "test reports" in the automotive press.
You just don't know until you see it operate.
I put brighter bulbs in mine(60/65 instead of the standard 55/60), plus an aftermarket wiring harness from rallylights.com, and called it a day.

So when the junky lights don't work and u want to return them he only owes u $50... it's a scam.

Yeah thats a good way for non return policy. Just so you know, these are just the headlight housings. The actually lights are not sold with them so not much to fail. But again I would not buy them on ebay listed that way either.

Brilliant - they look awesome on an awesome looking truck! I have a few specific questions that might help everyone out who might be interested in these.

1. How is the light output? Better, worse, same?
2. How was the fit of these units?
3. Plastic lenses or glass?
4. Bought directly from Russia?
5. Any additional mods required for them to work? If so, what and how much?
6. How long did it take to get em?
7. Would you do it again knowing what you know now?

thanks man!

I sent him a wire transfer via Western Union. If he was a scammer, he'd probably kept the unsecured wire transfer.

these are a halogen projector, halogen reflector, with some junky angel eyes. You can see in the pic they include the halogen lights. It also has 2 dual element side markers. I bought the package from him.

  1. I swapped to mini H1s, so not sure out of the box how they would do. I would assume similiar.
  2. Perfect fit, see my thread for the sheetmetal I cut out (tin snips, no big deal).
  3. Plastic lenses, not sure of material, but if plastic is good enough for my OEM BMW xenons, I didnt think this was a big deal. BMW xenons arent the best, but certainly not low quality lights. I've replaced my plastic lenses in the BMW after 85k miles.
  4. yes, via website/email and wire transfer. Dude is honest, I sent him 285 USD I got my package
  5. See build thread, complete details are there
  6. 1 week shipping time
  7. yes, I dont like the bugeye look and H1s are night and day

How are your headlights 18mos later? I had a stone through my stock a couple of years ago and bought some eagle eyes online. Never really happy with them... this might be a reasonable upgrade.
