Aftermarket OEM Replacement Tail Light Info Needed

I have an '05 4R. I do not like the pink shade tail lights. I first thought I could hit up a recyler/dismantler and find a nice used set of OEM ones. After 4 different places....I had no success finding any (nor could I find a hood w/scoop). I truly thought I would find some tail lights out there....oh well

So I have been researching the aftermarket ones like the link below:

Dont know what I did wrong but it puts you at the bottom of the page....weird

Can someone verify that they are the same 'look' as the OEM LED ones?

And I have heard different/confusing opinions on the aftermarket ones. Some say the LED brightness is brighter than stock....others say not as bright (right out of the box and compared side by side with OEM ones). I have also read that the aftermarket LED bulbs fade in time. I do not know much about LED's and their longevity but I thought they lasted much longer than regular bulbs.

In general, Just hoping to get some opinions from guys who have the aftermarket ones and can attest to their durability.

$178 for aftermarket is not bad. It does beat the pinkish (girly) OEM but it doesn't beat the OEM LED ('06-'09) w/ Toyota logo on it. :D
 
I have an 05 with the 06 LED's and LOVE them. Simple mod and it adds soo much to the looks! You'll love them!

Havent been able to get a pic of them with the brakes applied but I can see the reflection of them way down. When visiting my cabin I have to go down a long stretch of road before turning on my road and when I hit the brakes I can see the reflection of the signs all the way down. I'd say its a good 1/4 mile at least.

Well I had delusions of the OEM ones being available from the dismantlers near me (its blocks and blocks of all type of car manufactures) but they had nothing.

New OEM is over $300 for both sides....and thats the cheapest I found. Just hard to spend so much when mine are perfectly fine (but I am getting close to breaking down lol)

In terms of the aftermarket ones I posted, I'm not worried about fitment or leaking/fogging (haven't read any posts expressing such things). I'm just worried about the LED set up (I just dont know enough about any varying quality with LED's). I am not sure if its worth worrying about.

Anyone got long term use out of the aftermarket ones???

that's the thing man. none of these afterm ones are built to a standard so it's difficult to assess quality and u know hitting up random folks from random parts of the US that use their 4r in varying climates... will only get you anecdotal evidence of quality. nothing more. nothing less.

the OEM ones, why they're pricier, is, imo, justified. easily. i can be sensitive to finances from the standpoint of saying go for the most affordable units you can find and risk having them go kaput on you which then means you need to buy new ones or throw away the $s... or go for the OEM ones and you know they're guaranteed to work for the life of the truck in any given condition. plus they'd be warrantied by the toyota parts dept. at least my dealership does this.

so as others consider aftermarket v. oem, this is one example where OEM makes the most cents.

-LED brightness
-Long lasting function
-Durability
-Fitment
-Backed by Toyota should things go wrong (check with your local Toyota parts counter)
-Sell them back for a very quick sale and high resale value if/when u sell the truq

I agree with OEM.....but I'm new to Toyota and their :uzi: OEM prices

I can find Tons of Honda and VW OEM parts pretty cheap and I am normally a OEM snob....even resorting to a dismantler before I buy aftermarket (have learned this lesson with new aftermarket axles in higher hp applications a few times)

I'm gonna wait a little longer if I get OEM. I need a new transmission for my track car and it ain't cheap lol. Should stop spending money on this 4Runner (as I think about getting my exhaust done Thursday lol)

Thanks for the tinted tails thought but I would rather not. I really like the clean look of the 06+ ones.
