aftermarket rear coil sring upper insulator/isolator?

Hi All

Has anyone ever come across any rubber components that can go on top of the rear coil spring to provide a bit of isolation? I can see that some of the 2wd ones came with this, but very rare down here in NZ. Toyota wanted close to 200 each....

What about like a piece of fuel line cut lengthwise and placed over the coil? I don't know if it would degrade over time or not. That'd be my fear.

yeah I tried something like that before - it needs to be a circular plate, anything else seems to shift out of the coil.

I put some coil spring spacers on the rear of my 2000 4runner. Rancho makes them and I purchased them from rock auto. The thinnest ones give you a 2in. lift but they're urethane and could be easily cut down thinner if you didn't want/need that much lift.

do you happen to have a part number? I know energy suspensions makes generic ones in various sizes, so if we had the dimensions we could choose one from their catalog that would work without providing a ton of lift. I need some for my '96, since the previous stupidly removed the stock one when he installed the OME springs in the rear.

Wow, their not cheap $63 a side. I was thinking of getting a pair for my truck, but i think I might just cruise the junkyards instead.

I bought a pair from the junkyard for $25 each. I'll take measurements of them and see if energy suspension makes the correct size one and report back. Installing them today before heading down to baja. Hopefully it eliminates the weird clunk I'm getting from the rear!

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I just joined this forum and it won't let me start a new thread until I've posted some replies which is stupid.

I am about to upgrade my suspension on my 1996 Surf (same as 3rd gen 4Runner but sold in Japan/NZ etc.) and i want to replace the rubber isolators/seats on the rear coils. As the OP stated above it appears these vehicles don't have any seats and the cone shaped top seats/isolators were only on the later 1998 onwards 4runners. I'm going to buy some of those (part no. 48302-60051) as they should fit my vehicle but what about bottom seats? I don't believe there are rubber seats/isolators on the bottom of the rear coils on any of the 3rd gens? Why is this? I believe the 2nd gens had top and bottom as do many other Toyotas of this time period.

Has anyone got any ideas of what ones from other vehicles will fit? Or how to make my own out of rubber/urethane? Has anyone else worried about putting isolators on the bottom of the coils? I just don't like the idea of the metal to metal contact and figured over time it would cause wear there. Am I worried about nothing?

Mine is a 99 and it did not come with any isolators top or bottom, Surf too.
