Outside of OEM. What are the best racks? I've narrowed it down to CVJ reman or AAE reman or an AAE new rack. Opinions?

Just did a CVJ reman. I'll be getting under to double check everything soon. But ~2k miles, and I haven't gone shooting off the road. I will say with the amount of work I've had to redo lately; Never go aftermarket, OEM everything.

I figured CVJ is a good OEM alternative.

What did you have to pay for the CVJ rack?

Would you use CVJ again and what else have you replaced with aftermarket that you wish you used OEM?

I'll be paying attention to this.

Mechanic said he saw my rack was leaking and its a matter of time before it needs replacement. Saw the price difference between OEM and reman other brands and was wondering if its worth the price. I'm at 155k so I assume this will be the last rack to go in this vehicle if I keep it till 300k.

I have also found rack doctor. Small business, who seems to do a good job on rack remans. I'm going to call them tomorrow.

The Rack doctor rack is an OEM reman, $339 with free shipping. No core charge. Comes with a Lifetime warranty if you return your core.

CVJ gave me a price of $434 plus $225 core and then $52 for shipping.

If your OEM rack lasted say, 200k miles, and a reman or aftermarket rack is only $300 or $400 cheaper, but will only last 50k or 60k (just an example), the extra money up front would be way more than worth it. Even if the reman or aftermarket rack has a lifetime warranty, you either have to pay for the labor to replace and an alignment every time you replace it, or spend a Saturday on your back getting dirty when you could be out exploring. Just my 2 cents.

That's the thing, I can find any info that says these quality remans only last 50-60k.

I called rackdoctor. They replace all components using quality parts. I can't find an OEM rack cheaper than a grand. I could buy 2 reman racks with labor before I reached the price and labor of an OEM unit.

I know OEM is the best options, I was more or less looking for folks that went the reman route without issue.

Understandable for sure. In my experience (Toyota master tech for 18 years), we had nothing but issues with aftermarket or reman. I missed a couple of the comments above saying they have had good luck with some, but I'm still a little leery of them. I have 235k on my original rack, so hopefully it doesn't fail anytime soon, but I might be in your shoes when it does. LOL.

My rack has 175k on it, it is leaking. I'm sure my recent lift has put some extra strain on it. My pump also started to drip the other day. I might try to source a used rack and pump from a salvage yard.

Bump.

I am also interested to see if what experience anyone has, either with CVJ or rack doctor. Any idea on the differences besides price? My rack has had a slow leak for about 10k miles

My rack Dr rack is holding up well after a few thousand miles. Can't attest to longevity but so far so good. Quality reman. Call and talk to owner Rich, nice guy.

hows the rack holding up now? I'm in the same boat currently, pump just went out and the rack is leaking at the boots. my mechanic quoted me at like $850 for a refurbished part so i wouldnt mind saving some money if its a quality part.
