Toyo Steering Billet Steering Rack: First Look
If you’re running larger tires, steering becomes one of the first weak points. The new Toyo Steering Billet Rack was designed to address the limitations of traditional modified Tundra and LC200 rack swaps while maintaining OEM steering geometry and fitment.
Unlike legacy rack conversions that modify an OEM cast housing, the Toyo rack is built from the ground up using a fully billet 6061 T6 aluminum housing with Tundra internals machined specifically for Toyota SUV and truck platforms; 4Runner, GX, Tacoma, FJ, Etc.
One of the biggest advantages of the new rack is maintaining OEM equivalent pivots. Many LC200 and modified Tundra racks alter toe curves and steering characteristics throughout suspension travel. The Toyo rack keeps repositioning the mounting points and pinion angle to correct all the common steering issues with a modified tundra rack and LC200 racks.
The billet housing is machined to the proper width for each platform instead of reusing the wider Tundra housing. This allows full usable steering stroke without sacrificing steering angle or geometry.
The rack uses a 3 piece billet housing with bronze bushings at both ends to reduce deflection under load. Tight tolerances help improve seal life and steering precision compared to traditional modified cast housings.
The pinion is moved closer to center and angled upward slightly for improved u joint alignment and better clearance around the frame and suspension components. This eliminates the need for frame notching on many applications.

For hard wheeling and larger tires, Toyo Steering recommends pairing the rack with an upgraded ps pump, and an inline cooler (which they will have full kits soon).
