air conditioner not working

Where is a good place to start if my a/c is not working? 04 4runner v6

What do you mean by not working?

~Does the Air blow, but come out only warm?
~A/C light is blinking?
~Do all the controls work properly?

It will help guide you in the right direction if you were a tad more specific.

sorry about that, guess that would help. It blows air but it is the same temp as the outside. No blinking light ac light. Everything else works fine.

have u tried setting the temp all the way to "LO" & see what happens?

Just the mechanic look at it and it was out of freon. He didn't see any leaks. Could it be normal for a 2004 to be out of freon?
