Air Conditioning Issue

Hi all,

I tried performing a search and could not find my exact issue so I was wondering what you all might think. My AC blows cold air then about every 30 seconds to a minute you feel the air become ambient ( not hot) for about 5 to 6 seconds. You can definitely feel the difference and actually it gives off a really slight musty odor just for the 5 to 6 seconds then the air gets cold again. It does not matter what the temp setting is or the fan speed nor does it matter whether it is in Auto or normal max cold mode. This is on a 2004 SR5 no dual zone (if they even had it that year). I am hoping it just needs recharged. :thanks:

When it stops does the AC light start blinking...if so it may be the magnetic clutch relay in the fuse box. There was a recall on this....search blinking AC light for the threads about this.

I order the correct replacement relay and mine has been working great ever sense.

It is the same relay as the other relays in the box too. Just change one out of the same color. It sounds more like the a/c clutch is cycling on and off. The cause could be low on Freon. Check the sight glass next to the condenser in front of the radiator. If it shows bubbles, then it’s low. You could also watch the a/c clutch to see if is cycling on and off. Another cause of cycling would be if the cooling fan clutch was not engaging.

Kayakedude the ac light does not blink. It seems like it works fine except for every 30 or so seconds it gets luckwarm for about 5 to 6 seconds then it starts blowing cold again.

Weirdness. I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks

The Relay is a known issue with the 4Runner, swap/replace it first and see if anything changes. If its still the same then we can start looking into other things, there was a TSB for the evaporator icing up and condensation leaking into the blower fan and icing up as well. The fix involved a new blower motor assembly, some foam packing, and FIPG to seal a couple small seams in the assembly if I remember right.

MINE CYCles off and too, though the air is steady cold....will crosscheck and confirm though..if it does the 6sec stuff u are saying.....i hope not
