Is it worth paying around $20 for a Toyota air filter vs around $10 for a parts store paper filter?

Hold the 2 side by side and make the judgement for yourself. The Toyota has a better seal, nicer looking filter material. The auto parts store ones I have had were kind of cheap looking.

Considering it's the engine you are trying to protect I think OEM is worth the extra money, but where I live we have a lot of dust and dirt so I try to use the best.

I have never used a Toyota filter, but I also will only buy a few brand names that I know have quality products. I have used Hastings, Wix, Mahle, and Mann. I prefer to find Mann if I can find them.

I'm using a Wix air filter. Premium aftermarket stuff like Wix is good quality. This thread is heading towards what's the best oil/oil filter discussion. You're gonna get 20 good ideas.

I currently have a Microgard from Oreilleys (didnt have the funds and didnt want FRAM touching my truck). It looked just as good and as solid as the OEM one. With that being said. I would say if not Toyota go WIX and if not WIX go Microgard.

Does mann make a replacement for 4runner?

I generally use factory filters as even though they might be twice the price its still not much money for the job it does. That said, in the past I've spent $100 for 2 Mann filters in a mercedes box that could have been 40 bucks in a mann box. Live and learn!

I use Wix from NAPA since 1999, just like in all my vehicles going back 40 years. Wix does the job, costs less, and is three miles from home, and MUCH easier to park at than the dealer.

I use OEM all the time. I pulled open the air intake hose AFTER about 13300 miles to clean the MAF and saw the throttle body was brand spanking new! Not a single piece of dust inside. See the picture I took at that time.

If I don't find the OEM part, my next stop is NAPA. The last stop (unwillingly) .. A-zone!

You can't go wrong with OEM. For peace of mind, I do OEM everything when possible. Just my .02

Yes, the part number is MA1043. However I have been having a hard time finding them lately. RockAuto used to sell them, but they are not listed now. Pulled the number off an old order. Amazon only lists them for a high price from oddball sellers.

Vatozone only carries STP crap where i live. At least O's has WIX.

Wix Gold in all smaller vehicles Donaldson in all the heavy stuff. Air, Oil, Fuel, Hydraulic, etc. Never had a filter issue ever. NAPA has a filter sale every spring so we just stock up.

I decided to go with OEM after I saw a few members here go from K&N ($60) drop in to OEM.

I think there might be counterfeit ones floating around on ebay/amazon. The Denso ones I get from the dealer have always been gray. But I got one from amazon and it was black and looked slightly different, but same part number? I get them only from the dealer now. It's a big problem in other countries apparently.

I noticed that too! Didn't dawn on me until I replaced the Amazon one with one from dealership...

My OEM air filter arrived today. While I usually go Mann or Wix, I figured I would try an OEM filter. Came in a Genuine Toyota labeled box and the plastic is gray. Along the plastic on one side it is labeled "Denso Made in the USA". The other side says Toyota 17801-07020.

Picked mine up from TRDparts.com for $15.28, plus I ordered a few other things and got free shipping over $100..

I am an Oem air filter user for a long time. It works as in filtering out elements that cheaper paper won't. A TB/butterfly peek in will let you know results as posted prior
