I'm looking to put in a cold air intake, two things important are performance and if it saves a little gas- and last, the price...
I know K&N is a big name and kinda expensive (for me ;)) I also saw the Spectre and Injen intakes for sale...
So let me know any feedback or what's good. I appreciate it..

Don't waste your money on anything fancy like that. Do the deckplate mod and use a stock denso filter. Also like into an Air raid Jr intake that replaces factory intake tube. Goes between tb and stock air box and dont use the filter that comes with the kit just sell that make some money back.

Dont waste your money! I bought a k&n CAI a while back and took it off a week later. The only thing it did was make alot of noise.

Yall forgot something. Intakes look cool too!! but if your not into looks and your on a budget go for the deckplate mod like said above. Dont buy any cheap intakes off of ebay for that cool looking chrome may flake and cause a large explosion... :bang: maybe... Make sure you have an in-closed box so your not suckin up all that hot air from your engine. Check out volant there not that cheap but it's cool lookin :D If you go with some other intake and still need a cone filter volant makes the Powercore filter that is pretty rad! i have one and love it! it actually tones down the noise a bit... either that or I'm going def?? (i know i spelled that wrong) but yeah man good luck!

Has anyone tried to get their truck smogged after the deckplate mod? Im in California, and I know they are pretty damn picky about what you can do.

Not tryin to hijack, but I'm in need of a stock intake and airbox from the MAF sensor forward if anyone has a lead on one. 97, 3.4, 4x4, Auto. Thanks

did a little research on the deckplate mods, definately going to go that route instead, thanks for all the advice and feedback!

So I think I'm gonna do the deckplate Mod thanks to all of ya'lls suggestions, any good website with instructions or anything?

So yesterday i took the time to do the deckplate mod, thanks for the suggestions and tips, worked out awesome! saved a good chunk of change too, i think all the things i needed were 20 bucks...

why do people use the airraid intake tube instead of the stock one? whats the purpose of that? looks only? i myself am going to do the deck plate soon but was wondering why the new intake tube. does anything change

The easier it is for cooler air to reach the throttle body the more efficient the engine will run=more power/increased gas mileage. If you have no intentions of going off road to the point where water ingestion would become a problem the get the Ebay intake. I've used them for almost all my cars/trucks. It's simple plumbing, why pay $300 for a name. Hell, get the Ebay intake and buy a K&N, Ingen, DC sticker off Ebay and throw it on there. No one will know the difference. Your just paying for the name/the R&D the company had to do on the prototypes, now they've been copied and sell for $40 or less.

I'm not doing a cai on this one though. I'm actually getting a snorkel since I intend on doing a lot of off roading involving water. They aint cheep.

Not meaning to jump off topic but I think this will just expand on the same idea. I can't find a snorkel for the 97 4Runner. Will the 2000-02 piece work? What is the cheapest snorkel out? Is there a good looking cheap way to make my own?

Thanks, and good luck to those with the CAIs. If you want power throw the TRD supercharger!

Stock intake for sale?

Is there anyone that put a cold air intake on and has the stock airbox and tubes (not the maf) and would like to get rid of it?

I need the stock intake for my '98 4runner.

when you go into get your car smogged, just make sure the deckplate is in, because if it is in, there is no difference between that and original manufacture equipment.
