Air lift 1000s and towing

Just installed 1000s and the compressor system to tow my 3000lb sailboat. The sag is completely gone, and I have about 3 inches of lift to play with. In addition, the trailer is so stable behind me that I forget it is there on long stretches of highway. Another happy air lift customer!

is the compressor mandatory for the airlift 1000? did you do the install yourself? how much did it cost? does it affect the ride when you are not towing?

The compressor is not mandatory. You can just bring the fill line out to somewhere accesible and fill with an external compressor. Ride should not be affected- you just have to play around with the pressure left in the bags when unloaded. People here have shared what they run for psi when unladen.

I installed them myself and fill them when needed (not onboard.) They work great. I usually keep them at 5 psi when not towing to keep them in place. As stated, search for the install write-ups or follow the links in one of the sticky threads.

You don't need the compressor but it is nice. The install was done with a friend who has more tools and is more mechanically inclined... The only difference is that we ran the air lines in the frame which will decrease likelihood of snags. Also, I did not need to drop the suspension to put the bags in. Just compress the spring and lift the truck. No difference in ride.
Now if only I had more power! NH and VT mountains have me flooring it for long periods. I just hope the v8 is as much of a workhorse as I think it is.

Under $100 for springs and about $350 for the compressor. It's a steal compared to the 4K to install the toyota system.

If i didnt get the V8 limited that come with the air suspension I would have gone for the Air Lift 1000s. But having the air suspension in the back is really convenient. Being able to hook up the trailer and just let it self adjust is so convenient.
