AIRAID throttle body spacer

I ordered and installed an Airaid 1" throttle body spacer for my 03' 4.0 v-6 4runner SR5. along with a K&N cold air intake this seems to work really well improveing the low end acceleration and MPG when on the cruise by up to 4. any one else try this and what could be the next upgrade for not a lot of big bucks for performance?

Is this throttle body spacer must be a fairly new item. Where'd you pick it up? And I assume it was an easy intstall. Thanks.

AIRAID

The spacer was really easy to install about 15 min. .the 4 MPG is not a documented increase. As I stated I also added a K&N cold air intake. Both together work very good. I suppose I'll save up and put on the BANKS exhaust later with a computer performance chip. Go to AIRAID.COM and look up for the V-6 4.0. I checked out ebay and they didn't have any for that model. You can take it for what you like. I'm just stateing my OPINION on the increase in performance.

Throttle body spacers don't work on newer motors when the fuel injector is placed inside the combustion chamber .
Our engines as most modern ones are not intake manifold injected so there's no way for a TBS to work since swirling incoming air won't do anything for power since it isn't mixed with the fuel til it's ready to burn.

It's been proven on a dyno many time that this product is bogus.
Most gains are felt by people to help justify where there $80 went. Sorry but DPI (direct port injection) doesn't cooperate with a TBS and there's no way it can.

I wish I had known that about 3 days ago. So, a TBS is basically the same thing as one of those rip-off "Tornados"???? If that's the case, who wants to buy a brand new Airaid TBS for about a buck 15?

Money down the toilet? Check.

Don't feel bad since there's somebody who'll take it since there's alot of people in denial of this fact and swear by their butt-dynos that there's a diff.

Actually, if you have it then it won't cost anything to experiment. Track your actual mileage for a few tanks. Install it and keep tracking. Then uninstall and check again. It won't hurt anything. The worst part about all these threads and posts is that there isn't any hard data on our trucks.

If you want, ship it to me (I'll pay) and I'll try it out. If it really works we'll all get one but if it doesn't then no loss.

You don't need hard data, you just need to know the engineering behind the product and the way a TBS works is to swirl the aiir/fuel mixture but it's null and void on a direct port injection motor since there is no place for the air and fuel to be mixed before it's introduced to the spark. Pretty easy to understand why the product is a waste of $$ on a newer engine.

There have been several auto shows testing TBSs and the Tornado and there is no evidence they do anything to increase HP or MPGs. I'd like to see hard unbiased evidence that they actually do anything.

If people just did a little homework instead of believing those late night commercials then those companies would be out of business.
Remember the Prolong or ZMax commercials where they are spraying the underside of an exposed crankshaft with water showing the motor running with no oil and all the "mechanics" oohing and ahhing over it?
This was back 15 years ago and the first thing my dad pointed out that "of course the motor won't die when it being fed a constant coolling source on the vital parts" but it sure fools a lot people.

Throttle body spacers were invented more than 40 years ago and the design hasn't changed so in reality they became an obsolete technology once carbed motors became exinct.

I understand what you are saying (port injection vs. throttle body injection/carbs.) I am also a skeptic but would give it a (fair) shot for free just to put it to bed.

hey guys...I work at a Toyota Dealership over here on Long Island as a Tech. I took this issue to our master tech, who FYI is the TOP toyota technician in the country...yes, number 1. His exact words: "It's gotta do something. I was thinkin of picking one up myself"
I understand where you're coming from with the DPI and all, but I'm thinking it's gotta do soemthing as well...DOES ANYONE AHVE ONE WITH DYNO CHARTS OR SOME TYPE OF DOCUMENTATION SO WE CAN PUT THIS ISSUE TO REST??

Man,I gotta find the link but it compiled tests from several prominent garages and magazines and they showed that none of those things produced any power or MPGs and in some cases hurt it.

it just seems the people that want a TBS want solid proof they don't work instead of proof they do work. I've yet to find anything positive on these paperweights to prove they do work but I've seen plenty of evidence (two in person with Tacomas on the dyno) they do nothing except lighten your wallet.

My proof is in the design of the modern DPI motors which a TBS by design simply cannot work period.

There's two more pages.

Also how is one named top Toyota mechanic in the nation? If he thinks TBS works then he's far from #1 in my book.
