Airbag deployed .. where can I buy the whole system?!

Yesterday while offroading on a sand stretch I was making around 50-55mph when I hit a riple (sand bump) which caused the car to launch and jump for around 20m caused the air bags to deploy for both driver and passenger, thank God the damage is minor as of a broken radiator and front bumper.

Anyway my 2004 v6 4runner (non-multifunctional steering wheel) need yo buy the seat belts+ driver air bag + passenger airbag/dashboar)... could anybody tell me from where can I buy them ? Can I buy them used from scrap to be cheaper? !

Air bag replacement can be a bit of a chore. Here are a few things to consider.

• Passenger airbag replacement will require dash replacement.
• Any pretensioning seat belts may all need to be replaced.
• Be sure to get the clockspring too
• The airbag computer will need to be flashed/reset. There are services who will do this and swap your old one for a reset one, or will reset yours. There may be codes elsewhere too that need to be cleared. Access to a snap-on solus or other such tool might help.
• Be sure you get an exact match on the factory part #s for your vehicle. They sometimes change even within model years so check with the dealer to see what #s match your vehicle.
• With the same part #s you should be ok, but be sure to get a closeup of the squib (connector) to be sure you have the right part.
• Be sure to follow the **exact** factory procedure for airbag replacement, including disarming the bag system and handling the bags. They are explosives and you do not want one of these puppies going off in your face. If you have any doubt about what this means, you're out of your league, find a factory tech to do it for you.

Places like LKQ salvage factory parts and will guarantee the parts. You can find them on their website or on eBay. There are other reputable places but stick with the ones who have good reputations for airbag parts.

A lot of cars have fuses you can remove to disable the airbag system. Might want to look into that next time.

There was a warning somewhere about Chinese airbags. They can explode with no warning or fail to activate when in an accident.

Since this is a crucial life saving device, one with an explosive attached to it, the recommendation is to always for OEM and have a certified installer do the work. Preferably an affiliated dealer.

I am not sure of the rules for salvaged airbags, but there isn't a way to test an airbag.

They are very expensive with the median cost between 2 and 4k according to a few auto sites I looked around on.

Also, when you sell the car, check to see if you must disclose. I know that when a vehicle is in an accident with a police report, in which the bags deployed, that information is usually made public via carfax or other.

Make sure you have a certified installer inspect your sensors, since they might have been damaged or need to be reset. Some articles I read mentioned some vehicles needing them and the computer to be reset.

TL;DR Be careful. A broken or faulty airbag is potentially worse than not having one.

Perhaps the laws have changed over the years, but it was not that long ago that parts such as airbag were illegal to sell used, or off of a salvaged vehicle. Either way, when it comes to personal safety, it may be the more expensive route, but I would recommend getting factory OEM parts. With all of the counterfeit airbag components being made today, your life, or the life of a family member, is not worth the money saved when buying less-than-acceptable airbag components. Buy from the dealer.

No, I do not know all of the laws across the world, but as I said, things change from place to place, and country to country. You of course are making an assumption that he can ditch the airbags all together in Cairo. Do YOU know all of the laws there? The majority of my post was to advise the owner of the risk involved in using salvaged parts, or non-OEM parts. I am beginning to think you are stalking me here... :fencing:

on a side note and as said before it is part of personal safety and noone want to risk the life of a beloved family member just for a cheaper airbag... my problem is that i just don't have enough money as we speak to replace them, yet it is in my plan and totally convinced to buy them new as well.

Don't know the part number, but the center crash sensor is often bad after deployment. Many times the light will remain, but have no codes in the system.

The sensors and module I believe store crash data (I don't know how much to be honest with you) and become "locked." Sometimes you can't "unlock" them and it requires replacement, this is why after accidents some SRS modules need to be replaced along with some sensors.

Please allow me to apologize. I have been to N. Africa, but not Egypt. Please don't take any offense. I was speaking in some broad basics about over seas availabilty.

As for your part numbers:

First series, seat belt:
Any will work. As you can see, they are the same product, different "Color" or "trim". The trim for years can vary from whole colors to colors with dashes or splashes. I have no idea what trim you have, but any will physically fit and work. I wouldn't waste too much time on a seat belt.


2. Buy a seat belt adjuster. In a hard impact crash, the entire system might need to be replaced. A selt belt tension device can go bad. As you don't want to risk the safety of a loved on, replace it.

I can't attest to the others and will let someone chime in.

That is assuming your VIN would show up in a US system. I don't know how global the database is. I assume it is an algorithm of some sort.

will try this, thanks sungod ... my car was imported from US market (as it is not a common car here in Egypt as Prado do), accordingly i buy lots of stuff and ship internationally. if you know any trusted dealer that ship internationally please let me know.
