Airbag recall???

I got the notice for my '14 a few months back.

Those that have had this done, what am I in for at the dealer? How long is the wait and should I expect a courtesy car?

Well if you go to the Toyota dealers near me, prepare to hate life. Started with a 2-3 hour job, became 3-4 hour job but ultimately...

Took about 6 hours while I sat in the waiting room to get my passenger inflator and airbag replaced. I got conflicting info how this process is supposed to go down but was told they might only need to replace the inflator. They couldn't tell me if the airbag need replacement until they started working on it for some reason. They ended up replacing both parts but again the info on how/why this was decided was vague. One guy said decision comes from Toyota after they report the serial numbers.

Call ahead and get an early appointment if you want it back same day. Non busy day would probably get it done sooner. I saw some previous posts about improper dash installation after install which left a hump in the dash. so check and make sure everything looks good before you go.
 
Does anyone know if this applies to 2019s? I have a 2019 and was recently in an accident and everyone I've talked to says the airbags 100% should have deployed. Got cut off going about 50mph and hit the truck about 40ish. I've been told they didnt go off because I slammed on the brakes and the nose dipped missing all the sensors.

The recall is for airbags that would deploy explosively and litter the cabin with shrapnel in the event of a collision, not for airbags that fail to deploy.

It's also hard to tell what actually happened with your particular accident. It sounds like you rear-ended someone. There are several pages in the manual devoted to explaining the circumstances under which your airbags may not deploy.

I fully expect to get a letter on my 2018 in a couple of years when they continue to catch-up with the mind-boggling number of units they have to replace.

The airbags have gotten so smart and sophisticated that i'd say if they didn't go off you didn't need them. Did you need them? When you hit something that will deform along with your vehicle it really stretches out the velocity delta where you won't necessarily see a deployment. Glad you're okay.

I can agree with that, especially if the cars are getting smarter.

My brother got into a accident where he would have been better off if the bags didn’t deploy. It’s the air bag that ended up injuring him. Basically got punched in the face for no reason.
