Airbox on 2005 4.7L

I puchased a K&N filter and in removing the airbox cover to install it, I noticed what appeared to be another filter element on the underside of the airbox cover. It does not seem to be removable. Does anyone know what this is? A pre-filter of some sort?

You're correct. It's a secondary filter. Don't bother asking your local dealer about it, they'll look at you like you're crazy and "oh and ah" over it. If you're going to put a K&N filter in, the filter becomes the primary filter. Why you ask? Because the K&N filters are pure crap!
