Picked up my portable ARB compressor. Figured I'd keep it out of the engine bay since it tends to get dirty in there and I only need it to air up my tires, no lockers or anything besides the stock on my TE. Don't see why I would ever need a front locker. I leave the narrower back seat up and the box fits nicely on the floor along with a short shovel.
I also picked up an EZ-Air gauge. It's not accurate when filling up or airing down (it has a nifty valve), but is good as soon as you stop the flow. Makes the process much smoother, well worth the $20.
I only went down to 20 psi, I guess a lot of jeepers go down to 10 (for KM2's), but that is cutting it close on popping a bead. I figure I'll try 15 next time. Seems to make the ride much smoother at 20, especially on rocks. Grips sand a bit better, I would have no worries taking her to the Sahara.
Aired back from 20 to 32 in under 4 or 5 minutes per tire. I didn't measure exactly, but it was fast enough to be surprised.
By the way, what a rad place! Hit up Monitor & Merrimac, Butler wash, ended up on some slick rock mountain in the middle of a rain storm after dark, booked it back down. I hit up Potash Road and up through Canyonlands, only to Musselman Arch. Then up the Shafer trail (which is a must if you haven't before). Down some random trails because I couldn't find Gemini Bridges, then just camped her out. Only took just over 3 hours to get back from Moab, not bad at all.
There's nothing like taking her up to speed on a good sandy trail. Icon suspension would be so nice for the rocky trails, tempting to get and keep my current tire setup. Just keep her low and adjust for when these wear out. Does anyone know if that's easily done?
And she still cleans up nicely, despite the few scratches here and there.
