Wow - nice build thread. I really wish I had kept my '89 now. It would have been a great project. I guess after both kids are through college, I might do something like this. (I'd also like a vintage racer - i.e. 1970ish BMW 2002 also :guitar3
Money guard / manager / wife :whipping2 might be an obstacle though.
My son is Chuckles and between his truck, my '04, and 3 cars, I currently have enough maintenance. You really should consider a metal carport. They can add sides and an end for about $1500 installed and you can disassemble when/if you ever move.

I haven't closed them up yet... and now I need to hose out my fender wells, SMH. I'm going to widen the rear openings, they look kinda weird IMO, then I will close them up with 3/8" rod along the lip to weld the sheetmetals together and add strength to the lip. I'll post pictures when I start that soon.

I'm going to go back and cut most of the inner fender out, but leave a lip to weld the new overlapping sheetmetal fender well, then 3/8" rod along outside. It's going to be a b****, I'll use cardboard to make a template for the sheetmetal.

If you're talking about the mountain on 26, it wasn't bad. I had to downshift to 3rd and the trans fluid reached 209*. Going down is not a problem. Bout the same as the I-77 climb to fancy gap just inside VA.
Now, the hill going to the windrock campground, holy shit, I thought I was gonna explode the ring gear and my trans got pretty hot there. Next time I'll unload before climbing that with the taco and trailer. It was everything the 4Runner could do to climb it in 2nd, lol
Ahhh...26. You must go out 74 through Shelby. That makes more sense. I was talking about the climb on 40 just after Marion before Asheville.
That hill going into the campground is no darn joke man. I haven't pulled it with the Dodge, but the PO dragged this same setup up there and said it wasn't much fun.

Oh your right, yea that's the climb I was talking about right when we got on 40 from 26. 85 to 74, to 26, to 40. It was REALLY foggy when we drove through there around 11 pm Wednesday night. It was crazy cause we got above the clouds at the top and it was perfectly clear.
And yea that hill definitely isn't fun lol
Have you thought about just fiberglassing it in? I'm worried about welding on the thin sheet metal and thinking it might be heavy enough to solidify the outer skin.

No I haven't, I'll just weld sheetmetal. The 3/8" rod will strengthen it. Anyway, my track is too wide to hit my fenders on anything.

I modified them, flattened a couple bends and they fit great. It's crazy how much one vendor wants for mounts.
