AJT Keyfob Shell for 4th Gen 4Runner

So, this is my first "upgrade" I suppose.

I thought that the key fob included with the 4th Gen 4runners felt "cheap", so I upgraded. Super easy install and I like it very much.

Here is exactly what I bought: AJT DESIGN Injection Fob Case (4Runner) Black/Black Screws

Included parts

Guts from existing fob

Inside of new fob with "button membrane" from old fob in place

Here is the circuit board in the silicone/rubber cover that I suppose adds some water resistance.

I see a photo of the back in the OP first photo but no hole for the panic button and no photo of the back after it's assembled, does the new housing have it's own button for the red "panic" button on the back or is it eliminated?

The panic button is still there and still works. I suppose you could paint it red if you felt it necessary.

Hopefully it’s harder to engage accidentally than the original! Very embarrassing when I’m at work and have engage in my pocket when I’m squatting down to work on something.

I’ve obviously only had this for for a few hours, but I think if anything that “alarm” button would be more difficult to set off than the OEM shell.

I wish I knew “how” it gets activated in my pocket so I guess it would be worth a shot. I’ve even considered disabling that button all together since I don’t see any practical need for it anyway. I suppose maybe for a woman maybe, but I can’t think of a time when I’d ever need it personally.

You could do the following. When installing one of these AJT fobs, put a drop or two of super glue on that rear panic button. Let it dry, then assemble.

Yeah, I’d probably try it as is at first but if it still happened, I’d definitely try something like that. I’ve been kind of on the fence between the AJT and going with one of the switchblade types. I suspect that the key somehow activates the buttons while in my pocket, depending on how it is positioned on the ring. I’ve had it lock, unlock, or hit the panic at different times. It’s fine if just floating loosely, but when put under any pressure such as squatting down, kneeling, or similar, the tension increases allowing some part of the key itself to press the buttons. That’s one of the reasons I am considering the switchblade type since it cleans up that situation a bit by not having the key flop around, so in theory, there shouldn’t be anything to press the buttons (unless other crap in the same pocket happened to hit a button).

I have the same issue, but my fob is not attached to my key/s because the loop for the keyring is worn away, so my issue is other items in my pocket pressing the button, rarely does the panic button gets pressed but it usually the lock or unlock buttons getting pressed, which really doesn't brother me that much, but the one that does get to me is the rear window button, which rarely happens but it has 3 or 4 times and it seems to always rain when it happens and of course I don't realise the window is down and usually has been for most of the day or night.

I have managed to lock and unlock my 4Runner with the keys in my pocket, but have never set off the panic button. I think it is harder to hit with the AJT fob.

Haha, yeah, I forgot about the back window! That’s happened a couple of times! The first time was within the first week of owning the truck, and I was like wtf!? I came out first thing in the morning and realized it had been open all night because there was snow in the back!:tsk:
