Kind of 6 of 1 half dozen of another looking at current info and prices.

Thought this was interesting.
I don't know that I would have recognized "akebono" stamped on a toyota pad unless [MENTION=148218]JZiggy[/MENTION] recommended it a few months ago when I was changing the brakes on my father-in-law's 2016 camry. The pads were from parts.ourismantoyotaofrichmond.com. The main reason I went with toyota pads was because there were other parts I needed from toyota & the price, at the time, was about the same. Knowing what I know now I would get whichever pad is cheaper since akebono pads seem to be good quality.

It is, but Akebono supposedly made them so I'd rather save money and get the one without a $100 Toyota stamp.
I asked this because there is no compatibility info for them. Akebono is no help, you enter in your vehicle and they say 436 and 611 works, but they don't say which one goes to a rotor size.
I would expect such an important detail like which rotor size one works with to be mentioned in more places than the question section of one parts seller in Uganda.
It's unbelievable that with such poor descriptions of compatibility, no one has run into this.

What size are your brakes and did you use the 436 or the 611?

Would you happen to know the part # for the OEM pads, maybe search by VIN in a parts site like partznet or ourisman.
Rock Auto lists both pads (and discounted even more when selecting wholesale closeout pricing) and clicking INFO on either lists the OEM interchange part numbers. Odd thing is the Dynamic Friction pads listed there are compatible with either calipers, and other brands list only one part number for each pad category (ie economy, heavy duty, etc). I have no idea if the pads are the same for either size caliper.

I tried that but all the Toyota websites don't give me a sure answer if the equivalent part numbers fits my 4runner. It's weird, never had the website say IDK about a part, especially because I entered my VIN

A friend bought this Toyota ceramic brake pads for his Tundra brake upgrade:

I see both the 611 and 436 on RockAuto listed for your vehicle. I'm sure one is for 16" and one for 15" wheels. I assume you have the stock calipers.
I'd get the more expensive ones since they're probably bigger!
Also, cross check the listings on Amazon. There may be clues in the comments.
Also also, look at this:
TBU 199mm = 812 Akebono
TBU 231mm = 976 Akebono
I have a funny feeling that bigger pads use a higher numeric part number. If it were me I'd go with the 611's since you have the 16" wheels, which uses a larger caliper than the 15" wheels.
I'd get the more expensive ones since they're probably bigger!

I agree with [MENTION=148218]JZiggy[/MENTION] on this one. I've also used Akebonos in the past with great results. I even have them on my 07 Honda Accord right now. They're just an excellent brake pad for such a good price. Not to mention they're also an OEM supplier for many manufacturers...
But I went onto RockAuto and plugged in your vehicle info. I see how it can be confusing. I tried comparing the two pads and it looks to be the same-same. However I went to Akebono's actual website and plugged in the vehicle info and the ACT611 was the only one that showed up. I went with the ACT611. I feel like that makes more sense because I have the larger rotor and there was one website that said the 611 was for the larger size.
It also made it easier because Rock auto had only one ACT436 in stock, but had more of the ACT611 in stock, so I could get them for both sides.
It will be a while until I know for sure. I order brake pads and shoes way before I need them because the price always goes up and I know I can store them.
