Alarm advice needed

Hello all.
I am new on the forum and as the owner of a new 2005 4runner sport was hoping for some advice.
On the toyota.ca web site it lists a glass break sensor for $238.
I asked my dealer about it and he said it was only installable on the sr5 v6. I have a v8 sport and do not understand what the engine type would have to do with it. I was also wondering if it was an add on or stand alone in relation to the optional toyota alarm system.
Basically I just want somthing to stop the smash and grab a**holes from doing to much damage to my vehicle.
Any advice is really appreciated.

It is an add on to the alr system (VIP) or whatever toyota sells.
I'm pretty sure that Toyota uses audiovox systems so you could check their website for what alarm system goes with your car.
I also know that Hornet makes alarms that integrate with your keyless entry as well at least for VWs. Hope this helps.

Hornet 700T Security System links to your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) remotes! Don't throw away your factory remotes! Add on to your factory system with the Hornet 700T. Upgrade your factory remote control keyless entry system with Hornet convenience and security features while still utilizing your factory transmitters.
