Alarm for the 2011 SR5

Hi,

I just purchased a 2011 SR5 and wanted to install either an aftermarket alarm or the VIP Toyota alarm. If the VIP toyota alarm is easier by unplugging connectors and adding the alarm, that would be better. I can't locate anywhere on the internet where to purchase the VIP alarm. Can they be purchased or do they need to be installed by the dealer. I am a residential alarm installer and have installed car alarms in the past, so installing it is not a issue except I'm about 15 years older that the last time I installed a car alarm. Not easy crawling under the dash now.

Thanks,

Ronnie

Curious why folks would even want an alarm? The whole key chip system makes stealing it unlikely.. and If its something "in" the vehicle.. crooks will just smash the window, grab and go.. alarm or not..

Isn't the "standard" key an alarm already? What features are missing?

If the keyless entry is used, the doors will only lock or unlock. If someone breaks a window then they can steal anything from inside of the car.

Thieves will probably think twice about breaking into cars knowing that it has an alarm.

Perhaps where you are they do. In Dallas, I hear alarms going off all the time and I don't even pay attention. Alarms are just there to keep honest people honest in my opinion, your best option is simply not to carry anything of significant value in the vehicle. The liklihood that someone will steal it is pretty low (at least in the states).
