Alarm system on our 4th gens

I have a 2004 SR5. I am able to hit the panic button on the remote and get the alarm system to activate but the other day I lost my keys and was able to break into my rig without the alarm going off.


Is this normal? I locked the 4Runner with the key fob and was able to fish in a metal coat hanger to pull the door handle to unlock the passenger front side door. This worries me as I plan on keeping a lot more expensive equipment in the vehicle and id like a piece of mind of knowing someone wont be able to just drive off with it.

I had a Viper system in my old car that included an ignition kill switch if the alarm was triggered at all, was just wondering if our vehicles did the same.

usually stock cars are only equipped with keyless entry, if you want an alarm system, get a good brand, i usually recommend compustar, its what i been messing with for a few years now, no problem, are you doing remote start too? its only a few more wires that needs to be hooked up by the installer.
