alarm wont beep??

I have a 1998 4runner with the factory RS3000 alarm that comes on it and am using the original key fob. Just recently...the alarm decides not to beep sometimes when it is unlocked with fob, or locked. Sometimes it will beep on unlock but not lock...or it will go a whole day with no beep. Other days/weeks its fine. Any suggestions? A short maybe? i dont get it. THANKS for any help!!

Sounds like a short to me especially if it is intermittent like that. At first I was thinking that you somehow changed the settings but that would be impossible. Sounds like maybe the sound device that gives the beep is either wearing out or there is a short. I would guess that it is a short if it is only 8 yo.

Anyone know what this "sound device" is that makes the beep? I donno if i will replace it, depending on the price i guess.
