alignment numbers

I called in this morning to make sure they could look at it, "thats about as good as we can get it, these guys know what they are doing, 25yrs of experience" ReallY!! Taking it in here in a bit and see what i can get them to do. If i am reading correctly, are the caster numbers +1.41 and +1.97?

Unless you have something bent, they "should" be able to get it aligned better than that. Especially the camber. It's pretty common knowledge that anything +/-.50° camber will typically cause a tire wear issue. Leaving yours at 1° is just not caring or really not knowing what your doing. Caster is not a tire wearing angle but if the caster split (cross caster) is high, your vehicle will pull which will then cause a tire wearing issue.

Thanks Ron, so am I looking at the caster numbers right? This 4runner was a one owner garage kept gem, can't imagine anything being bent, but i guess it could be possible!

Hope you don't mind but I copied your printout and rotated it for explanation.

The 1.00° and 0.45° above the front wheels is the camber angles. The 1.41 and 1.97 under the front wheels is the caster angles. The 0.02° and 0.07° in front of the wheels is the toe angles. The 0.04° is total toe.

Now its time to take it to the other shop and get their opinion because the first shop obviously doesn't seem to care.

sorry for bringing up an old thread but I figured it's better than starting a new one. Did you get a refund from that shop that did your alignment?? I just got my alignment done at Firestone and they didn't even bother touching the caster and then he tells me they don't adjust caster only toe unless I purchase one of their adjustment kits. I told them you can adjust caster on the car without purchasing one and then he talks to the tech guy and comes back and tell me that they are maxed out already.

Before measurements
LF camber 1.2 RF camber 0.2
caster 1.4 caster 1.4
toe 0.51 toe 0.19

After measurements
LF camber 0.0 RF camber -0.5
caster is exactly the same
toe 0.04 toe 0.05

The rig is lifted so at first I believed him but after thinking about it I don't think he ever bothered checking and just left it the way it was. Will there be a problem with the RF camber? It drives fine and pretty straight with no pulling but the steering feels loose and twitchy.

Are you comparing it to the way it drove before the lift? Lower caster will cause steering to feel lighter and you tend to see more wander when you let your hands off the wheel. What they said could be true with it being maxed out or most likely that they can't adjust it back into spec. Most shops won't touch it unless they can get it back within spec.

Yeah, I just had the same experience with my local Firestone in Lakewood, CO in regards to the caster. They claimed it wasn't adjustable without buying some kind of kit... Which is strange because reading on here I was lead to believe stock UCA's are adjustable for caster. The ride isn't terrible, but it feels twitchy and a bit unstable at speed after my 2/3 daystar lift. Not sure what to do now, I thought I got a great deal paying for lifetime alignments... Now I'm not so sure.

It isn't a question of being able to adjust it, it is having enough adjustment to be able to get it back within spec. They won't bother maxing it out and telling you that they got it as close as they could. In their view it is pointless to do that. I can sort of agree, but at the same time you are paying for a service.
