discovered a new 'issue' yesterday. in Denver we had some spring snow roll through, all the snow piled up on my sunroof tucked in behind the wind fairing. that fairing kept all of the snow from blowing off my car. i had to go fast around a corner and let it all slide off out the side.

So far I've had the Gobi Stealth Rack for about 2 or 3 weeks now and o am happy with it so far. There is plenty of discussion and feedback on wait times and Gobi customer service so I'll skip all of that...
the install was pretty easy and straight forward. Overall it took me about 3 hours with removing the factory roof rack and starting the install of the GS.
Immediately I was able to feel the weight of the rack while driving the Runner. We ran a few errands around town and almost prefer the additional weight due to the choppiness that KDSS provides on potholed streets. On the highway, the added weight can cause additional lag for the under gunned engine, especially in windy conditions.
I'm in a mostly stock Trail Edition with TRD Pro suspension. No other mods that would add any weight. 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers.
The wind fairing was easy to install and I can tell makes a big difference. I haven't hauled anything in the rack yet but look forward to it. I have a fence project coming up and I'll need to haul around some 4 x's and 2 x's.
We just returned from a weekend away and the added weight in the truck caused some sag. I think I'll be replacing the rear springs soon with some Dobinson C59-505's to give us a little more wiggle room when carrying additional weight.
Anyway, so far so good. I'll edit this post once I am able to provide more feedback on the overall usage of the rack.

I've had my Gobi Stealth for a few months now and overall I'm super happy with it. I've done a few overland trips with ~100lbs of gear strapped to it, and never had a single issue. That said one thing I regret was ordering the optional stealth tool box. Pretty much a waste of money; I'd hoped to be able to store my travel tool kit, recovery strap, and some ratchet straps, and I'm barely able to fit the tool kit and ratchet straps. The 4" recovery strap won't even fit inside. I'll probably be removing it soon, anyone interested in it and have an use it's suited for?

Same here. I ordered the stealth tool box and sold it on Craigslist 1 month after receiving it. Wish I would've ordered the awning mounts or tie downs.

• cleaning under it will be a pain. I can get my hand under it but only about half way across the roof. might get a stick of some sort. i priced a clear bra but it was too pricey for my nearly 10 year old vehicle.

Use a Swiffer to reach under the rack for cleaning!

Don't worry OP, you have plenty of time to figure it out while you wait a year to get your rack. It will be heavy, make lots of wind noise, you'll find you need mount after mount only available through GOBI to put anything on it, which you get to wait 6 months for each time you want to add anything.

I can help you out though....

This is the rack I have always wanted. It amazes me to see some people say there is no wind noise at all and others say it is incredibly windy. Have long time owners experienced much issue with rust?

3 years in with gobi stealth no rise, hardly any wind noise, no rust, used it quite a bit. Love the ladder if nothing else it provides a handle, feels weird trying to close a hatch without the ladder handle. no damage in shipping and they were very easy to deal with. In my experience great phone communication


My only gripe is MPGs they went down a couple

Have had my gobi stealth no rise for over 2 years. Highly functional, no rust, no complaints. Also I live in Oklahoma, there is an abundance of wind here, I followed the wind fairing instructions to a T and get zero wind noise. YMMV.

Don't own one, but like the design (in general). It would be great if someone made a similar rack, but made with tubular aluminum instead of all the flat aluminum and extruded rails every other rack is made of. I'd be interested in that if it were a reality.

Well I drove Jeeps for 15 years and used to have people tell me there was no difference between the soft top and the hard top. All I can say is some people are DEAF.
