All terrain tire suggestions?

I live in the mountains and we get a decent amount of snow, and this is only my second winter with this runner. It came with bridgestone duelers that had 6k ware.. and now they have 23k. Last winter they did "ok" but now I definitly need new tires or I am going to be all over the place, and 23k isn't very good for a tire of that price..

I have been looking into Cooper Discover ATR tires. I do minimal offroading, usually in the summer, but do go off road in the winter to get to ski resorts or back country places to snowboard. virtually no mudding.

Tire suggestions?

A good tire that I found that is pretty decent off-road but good on-road and snow performance is the Michelin LTX AT2. Not the cheapest but when a tire goes 60-80k it becomes a good deal.

I'd say either get a second set of rims and out snow tires on, or get a set of BFG KO's. They're Severe Weather certified and what I've used to get up and down the snowy canyons (skiing, snowmobiling). They've not failed me yet. I've been in some dooseys, too.

If you want to go mild go with the Michelin LTX or Revo.

If you want a more aggressive AT look at the Goodyear Duratrac.

If you like the Cooper ATRs, you will probably like the STs better in the snow and they are still an AT tire. The STTs are an MT, but not the STs. My neighbor has had them for 2 years on his Jeep GC and he loves them in the snow. This will be his 3rd winter on them and they look good still. And where I live (with all the windy roads) 2 years on a set of tires is great.

I would recommend the tires I just got...Yokohama Geolander ATS... I love the tread design, really inexpensive... supposedly they last forever and have great off-road performance .

Grabber AT2's are a good looking tire plus there pretty cheap, plus they're totally awesome in the snow, mud, dirt, whatever! I love hitting the back country and I've been able to get where I wanna go no problem! I've had them for a while with zero problems

Just about everything you should be looking at has been mentioned save a couple, the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor, which, like the BFG AT T/A KO is also severe weather rated (mountain and snowflake symbol), and the Nitto Terra Grappler.

I recently put those same tires on my T4R!!:cheers: They performed well in snow and ice in CO and perform well on the highway as well.

I'd take a look at Nokian too! I had Nokian Vatiivas (an all season tire) on my last SUV and they were rock solid up here in the Rocky Mountain snow. I live at the base of a couple ski areas and the tires were fantasic in the snow. I just bought a set for my 4Runner. The local shuttle company that brings people in from the Denver International Airport fits their cars/truck/vans exclusively with Nokian Vatiiva.

Nokian also makes a tire called the WRG2. It is an all season tire (no studs), but is also severe weather rated (snowflake/mountian symbol). I almost went with those, but was so happy with the Vatiivas that I had little reason to change.

i personally hate Goodyear. had some and will never have them again. have coopers now and love em, but will prob buy something different next go'round

I'd say BFG AT's or Goodyear Duratracs.

My uncle has the BF AT's on his Jeep and Mazda and he seems happy with them. They're not the best in wet road conditions but they are a good all around tire.

Just about a week ago I got a set of Duratracs for my Tacoma and damn I love those tires. They look mean for an AT tire, they aren't loud (considering the aggressive tread), and they handle wonderfully in rainy conditions. Definitely beats the Rugged Fails that it had from the factory.

Also, my dad has Goodyear Silent Armor's on his T100 and they have treated him well also. They seem good for mild off-road (most of his driving is off-road on a farm) and they handle great on wet or dry roads.

I had BFG ATs for two previous sets of tires on my 4runner. They worked great for me. The only problem is that they are hard to balance and keep balanced.

Last winter I switched to Yokohama AT/S. They are awesome. They ride and balance better than the BFGs. They dig thru snow on the road and deep trail snow. They are very sure footed. They are unstoppable on Moab slickrock.

I will be buying more of the Yokos.

Note: I sipe all of my tires. The sipes grip better on snow and ice. The sipes can cause some chunks to tear off while wheeling rocks.

I'm on my 3rd T4R (2nd, 3rd and 4th gens) and I've ran Michelin LTX's, Bridgestone REVO's plus a few others but the one I liked the most both performance and price-wise were the Firestone Destination AT's. IMO, they out-performed the others in all categories with the exception of not out-living the LTX's hard rubber.
