I'm new here and know this has been a common discussion on this forum. I'm having some work done this Friday at 4 Wheel Parts and wanted to make sure I was making the right decision on the tires. I live in the Dallas Metroplex and don't see much snow or ice.. I've ordered the Nitto Terra Grapplers but have been reading that the tire life isn't all that great. Opinions? I'm having the following done and wanted to get a half way aggressive tire...no mudders.

Bilstein shocks and struts
Daystar 2.5/ 1.5
Spidertrax 1.25 inch wheel spacers
Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/70/17

I drive around 30-35k per year...all highway and city.

I like the idea of a AT-S or AT-R. Like the Yoko Geolander AT-S or the Pirelli Scorpion AT-R. Even the Kumho KL-61.

All three of those are more of a street tire than the Nitto or the BFG, I would think they would be a little easier on MPG as well.

If all you do is street driving and want the aggressive look, thats my thoughts, and I am thinking about one of those three as well..
 
Having owned the bFG AT's and now the duratracs. I can say the duratrac are simply in a different league that the BFG's as far as comfort and grip. The duratracs are hands down superior
 
I just bought 265/70/17 Yoko Geolander AT-S's.

They have been fantastic so far, and are a great price. I highly recommend them.
 
I went back into 4 Wheel Parts today and asked about all three...Nitto, BFG and the Goodyears. I love the Duratrax look but they said the were softer than the Nittos which is softer than the BFG's. (softer being they will wear faster)

My biggest concern was the treadlife b/c of the amount of driving I will be doing. Example last car was 02' Yukon XL sold it with 310,000 miles. I went ahead and ordered the BFG's b/c of the tread life. If I can get 60k miles on them it would sure beat 40K miles I'm reading on the Nitto's. Who knows, I may change after I go through them.

Really depends on what you're looking for. For an AT that's more off road oriented, the Duratrac's are great choice and are getting excellent reviews (better than the BFG AT's from everything I've read, and as mentioned above). For something more road oriented that will still perform good off road (which is where I'd rate the Nitto TG's), I'm very pleased with my Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10's. Performance is close to the TG's but life is suppose to be much better (I'm only at ~15k miles on mine, no wear showing though). The RF10's have held up great in everything I've been through. I don't have experience with many tires, but they're definitely the best AT I've ever had, and pretty affordable at that. I'm in pretty much the same situation as you, and the more off road oriented BFG AT's and Duratracs just weren't worth the extra cost. The Terra Grappler is a good idea. I would also look at the Bridgestone Revo.

If you want more aggressive, then the DuraTracs are a good idea.

X2!!! :iagree: Had Nitto Terra Grapplers and BFG AT's on my Nissan Titan. My experience with the BFG's: great dirt/rock traction, good mud traction, good snow/ice traction, good dry/wet pavement traction, great tread life(depending on driving style). Nittos were almost on par with the BFG's but i only got 35k out of them compared to 55k with 1/4 tread left with the BFG's when i turned it in for the TR4.

I vote for the BFG A/T's!! :cheers:
 
Had 2 sets of Nitto TG's in that size and they performed with no issues in mud, sand and snow.

Overall the Nitto's were perfect.

I still have one set sitting in a garage.

Only reason I switched is for MT's.

I was a big fan of these myself, I used them on my Land Cruisers (FJ62 & FJ55) until my last set when the sidewalls started cracking with low miles on them. I decided to try Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors instead and like them even more.
 
The Revo2 is an excellent tire and in the "E" load a long lasting one, easy on MPG and not noisey, search the tire threads - I'm lovin mine in the snow!
 
Iv had dynapro mt,bfg and goodyear duratrac.duratrac are best tires Iv owned.I put 40k miles on them and still have plenty of tread left just make sure to rotate your tires.jmo
 
Also a fan of the Goodyear SA -- I've had them on ~20k mile and the treadwear is great so far. I had the Revo's on my Tacoma and they were OK, they seemed to wear faster and were not as good in the snow.

I have been riding on 265/60/18 Yoko Geo AT-S as well, and I think they are amazing on dry and snowy pavement so far -- and they have really been tested by snow.
 
Cooper Discoverer ATR's

I had these on my Highlander, and while a little noisy, I never felt nervous in snow or on wet roads. I plan on putting them on my 4R when the crap ones I have on now finally wear out.
 
I think I'm going to go with either the duratrac or the Kelly Safari TSR when I get some A/T's. Here's the safari TSR. It's cheaper than the duratrac and made by Goodyear.
