I THINK there is a plastic block that the screw goes in, which should be re-placeable.

In case anyone else wants avoid this unfortunate situation, the rear plate uses M6x1 , 16mm long machine screws.

I changed mine from philips to security torx.

Thanks for this info. My original ones have slightly rusty heads and I plan on replacing with stainless.

Update!!

The Service Director will take care of this right away and will contact me as soon the part comes in. Dude took a picture then he told me he'd be in touch as soon it comes in and will have a 4Runner loaner in the meantime. I am going to assume they will write it off as warranty work or something as I will not be paying one cent for this work order! I will also have them replace the rusted screws on the front plates too since it should have been brand new ones when I first purchased the vehicle


FOLKS, never never give up on situations like this. If you have to reach out to the freaking General Manager of the entire dealership to get shit done, then BY GOD DO IT. Plead your case and NEVER GIVE IN! Never assume being denied by a service adviser or a service manager is the last stop here. Keep going through the food chain until you get what you want!!! Last thing these folks need is an angry customer who had just spent a pretty penny through their dealership instead of another competing Toyota dealer!!!

I do not think it is obvious that they F***ed up, I think it is a situation of "prove it" since the owner of the vehicle removed the screws installed by the salesman, and installed a license plate at a different time.


How can the owner of the vehicle prove he didn't install the wrong screws?


How can the dealership prove they installed the correct screws to begin with?

Neither can prove anything, so the dealer will obviously deny it because it will cost them a good chunk of free labor.

I think the owner of the vehicle needs to raise hell to the correct people at Toyota until the dealership fixes the rear window.
