Ok so I have my dual fans set up on a manual switch until I get some time to install my derale 16720 switch. So when i am going through town, sitting still if something I turn them on and when im on the freeway I turn em off. When I first installed them I was running a constant 208.4 according to my obd2 scanner. I drove about 4 hours that day with no problems. The highest I got was 213. So today on my way home and was curious about the temp and was sitting at a red light watching it climb to 230. Wtf? The entire way home ihad the fans on. What's the deal? Why is it all of a sudden I am over heating? And its only when im sitting still..

did you personally look to see if the fans are on or did you flip the switch. I had a fuse come loose to where it would let voltage threw but not enough current. finally got fed up with it cuz it was such a PITA to get working right and just went back to stock. I have derale kit + a inline water temp sensor adapter if you interested in it.

edit: i have this whole set up just sitting if you interested in it. + a water adapter. http://www.jegs.com/i/Derale/259/16749/10002/-1?parentProductId=

and this adapter i made

yeah.. When I got home I just let it run and watched it. The fans were running but the temp kept rising. When I popped the hood the overflow resivior had over filled itself and antifreeze was all around it and down the wheel well.. It is starting to be a pita. I have a derale 16720 and an inline temp sensor adaptor like that in my garage just haven't had the time to put it in..

You think if I get a bigger fuse on there it will run faster? I am curious if thats what is holding back the amps or if its the fan controller itself.

When I tested them out before the install they almost flew out of my hands they ran so fast. Now the fans are running maybe a 1/4 of that speed. what gives?

make sure all your wires are solid and and grounds are good. How big of wire are you running? i was running a 40 amp fuse but i was running a linclon mark 8 fan. it was a monster.

I think they might be 14 maybe 12? I have individual grounds for one and sharing the other.. i think I have a 30 amp on there now..

You know anyone else who has done this swap besides stick figure?

14 is kinda small, 12 would be the minimum i would run. just make sure you have good contacts everywhere. you are running strait off the battery correct?

what coolant mixture are you running? I had a big problem with that. when i had the fan it never got above 190 unless i was lugging it hard up a steep hill. 208* is a little warm to be idling imo

good point,, i am running 50/50 as far as i know... what would happen if it was stronger? and did you have a lift withh m/t tires? and all that jazz to make the engine work harder?

190 is the best temp for our trucks 208 is way too hot for idel and normal driving, the highest i've got was 206 and that was all up hill high rpm

check for any air leaks in the intake system after the MAF, extra air into the engine will make it run leak thus making it run way hotter than it should be.

okay here is my obd II
64mph
1950rpm
200 degrees
engine load 51%
MAF temp: 120

i have 33 ATs with ARB up front, rock sliders, 100lbs of tools in the back with 4.30 stock gears

going up the grapvine on sunday, 65 mph, spinning 3.5k engine temp hit 206 probably 100% load. trans maxed at 192 till i locked up the torque converter towing ~1500 lbs

im running 20:80 + water wetter (coolant:water) sense where i live never gets below freezing however i have had this set up in -2* and it was ok

ok will do.. its probably about time for a new set of intake manifold gaskets with as much as I have taken them apart. And I need to do a flush I think. Before I replaced the engine I put some stop leak in there.. wonder if thats clogging it up?

just flush it out real good, check your wires make sure everything is connected. then go from there. dont stress to much.

yeah no worries.. just sucks that I have to do even more maintenance on my truck.. lol.. its time for more mods!!!

yeah my truck got sent to the back burner for now, im on maintence mode/ i just bought a jetski so im gonna go play with it haha

ill give you some advice

The reason i went to an e-fan was because i blew the stock one up going through a pond on an off roading trip about a year ago. So i spent the time, got the efan installed it. got a cheapo temp switch. it was terrible

So i went back and did it "right" with the in line water temp sensor. It worked great unless the manual off switch got tripped, happened to me a bunch of times. i saw it hit 220, 228, 236, 248 and 260 the many times was accidentally off. Luckily every time it got hot i was going very slow or stopped idling so it wasnt under load and so far so good about 10,000 miles later. After the last big one i said it was time to fix it once and for all. took it all apart was going to build myself a sweet little mico controller with an LCD display blah blah. So i went to play with it and discovered the fan wasnt working took it apart figured out what was wrong and went to put it back together and snapped a blade off...

So i said enough was enough and figured toyota engineers new what they were doing so i went back to stock. havent had a problem sense and now i dont have to worry about if the fan turned on when it was supposed to.

Anyway. this is just some food for thought.

For me it was not worth the headache and possible damage to my motor.
