Almost ready to lift

A few weeks back I asked about grille guards and ultimately decided based on some sound advice to just wait and get an ARB, which I'm going to do. However before that I had planned on putting in a new suspension just because mine as it is now is worn out and just plain old. So instead of just putting stock everything back on it I did some looking and found some OME coils and decided I'd rather give it a little lift before I did anything else, but I have some questions.

First off, the coils that I found are 1.75 inches in the front and 2 inches in the rear. Since there is a quarter inch difference would it be wise to invest in something like trim packers or a quarter inch spacer to level it out?

Second, from what I read in the lift sticky the diff drop is only necessary if you're lift is greater than 2 inches. So, since the point of the drop is to return the angle of the CV to what it would be with a 2 inch lift, I wouldn't need the diff drop seeing as I am only planning to do a 2 inch lift?

And finally, with the 2 inch lift would it be advisable to swap out stock length shock absorbers with longer ones to allow maximum flex when off road? Or would the standard stock length ones work?

Any help on these questions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

First, if you are going to get an ARB, you should get 882 or 883 front coils for the extra weight. Second, the rake is completely up to you. Some people like a rake, others like the "level look". Third, you should get longer shocks, or you wont get as much travel out of your lift as it allows. Finally, you will have to look at your cv angles. If they look steep, get the diff drop.

which coils are you getting 880? 881?

you aren't going to notice a 1/4 inch difference between the front and rear so i wouldn't worry about it. most people don't realize that even from the factory, cars and truck almost never sit perfectly level from front to back or side to side.

you shouldn't need the diff drop for 2 inches or less of lift.

longer shock would not be a bad idea but they are not required. if you are already going to replace them, just get the longer ones. rears are the only ones that need it.

check out ToyTec. we have pretty much all the stuff you are looking for

What OME coils did you buy?
You aren't going to even notice the 1/4" ... measure it out and see what the front and rear height is, measure from the center of the hub to the top of the fender. It might not even be a 1/4" difference.
I would put the diff drop in, but you will be fine without it too. It's not putting that much angle on the CV, but I would still put the diff drop in, its only 30 bucks too.
If you are running OME coils in the front, you should use OME struts.

It'll all play out after the springs settle. See what it looks like after a week. I'm all for a little rake rather than sag. Plus if you do any climbing you'll notice that these 4Runners drag ass in steep climbs.
Wow! did this guy climb this with a tow bar? YES and it sucked

Thanks for all the help guys, I didn't know that OME springs should be run with the OME struts but it makes total sense, so thanks for that bit of info. I wondered if the difference in height would even be noticeable and Jon you make a good point about climbing, so I'm not gonna sweat it.

The coils I'm getting are 881's up front and 906 in back, I couldn't find the numbers before but just went back and found them, sorry for leaving that out. I also wondered why I was only finding shocks for the rear, so I'm glad I got that cleared up as welll.

Also Steeze, I've looked at toytec for the 1.75" coils but couldn't find them. I would love to buy them from you all because I like how readily available you all have made everything. Have I over looked something?

Thanks again guys, you all have been incredibly helpful.

We sell both the 881's and 906's. Actually we can get anything from ARB/OME even if its not for a toyota. The 881's are closer to a 2 inch lift so you should be level with those.

Appreciate it Steeze, you all will be getting my business.

However I do have one other issue that I need clarified now, I think I may have been slightly mislead. Sorry for all the questions, I'm sure you can tell I'm new to all of this.

I noticed on ToyTec it said the 881's are a light load, and I saw on a different site it was listed as heavy duty. So if I'm doing an ARB bumper up front I would assume it I would need slightly heavier coils, such as the 883's? My only question with that is from what I've looked at the 883's give a 3" lift vs. the 2", is that accurate?

881's would be the lightest, medium would be the 883's and then 882's are the heaviest.
883's are a little taller than 881's but they will be fine for you.
If you are gonna throw on an ARB, I'd get the 883's... the 881's will probably end up sagging over time with that ARB. Buuuut isn't driffter running 881's with topouts and he is in the process of building that sweet front bumper of his...

Also, Toytec is a great place to buy from, they process your order and usually ship it that same day. Very knowledgeable and real cool people.

Ok great, I had read several things and couldn't tell if the 883's were that much taller than the 881's or just slightly. I knew the 881's wouldn't be the best choice if I was gonna throw and ARB on there. I just didn't want to get 883's and have them be 3" in the front and 906's 2" in the back.

I really appreciate the patience guys, thanks so much. I know what I'm doing now.

no, your 4runner will sit fine with the 883's and an ARB. You might want to throw some 891's or 890's in the back instead of the 906... though they are a little bit taller.

Why yes I am, for now. But with a 95# bumper and 65# winch and the future addition of dual batteries and budbuilts I will soon be ordering either 882, or 883.

X2 I think you will be happy with 883/890/ARB/Diff drop. Keep in mind that the 883's might be a bit stiff until you get your ARB.

TOYTEC will be getting my money again soon.

Alright great! Hopefully it won't be too long before I get all of this. What I'll end up doing now is just getting ToyTec's complete lift with the 883's and 890's with the shocks. Thanks for pointing that out drifter, I wondered if the lack of the ARB with the slightly heavier springs would affect the ride, but that's no biggie.

I couldn't be more appreciative everyone, you all have been one of the most helpful groups I have ever run into. I will be sure to stick around and keep you all posted!

Ha yes this group is very helpful. There are a lot of great people here and they will all help you spend your hard earned money on modding your runner. As you are being helped today, you will be helping tomorrow. The people on here will help you get it done right the first time.
