Alpicool Refrigerator/Freezer?

Ended-up going with a Dometic CFX 40W. It was a display model, $150 off, no tax free shipping. Hard to pass-up...

That's pretty sweet. You have a dual battery setup for it to run on? Or just on when your engine is on?

I've got a plug in cooler, but it's nowhere near that beast.

Jerod, good to hear from you. It has been a while...

Have used this in our home for over a week on 110 v and it's impressive in how fast it cools, how much can be packed into it, and how long it stays cold inside after unplugging it too (insulation).

I honestly think for most of our applications I won't need an extra battery. It literally goes from room temp to fridge temps in less than 20 minutes. It's insulated so well, going one night with no power won't be a problem at all, unless maybe using it as a freezer with ice cream inside.

That said, for longer outings, likely not with the family, I'm looking at a solar set-up with a separate battery in the rear. As you might know, I created a storage area in the rear between the frame rails. I envision a battery secured in that location...

Or, depending upon the size of the battery, I might be able to figure something out here.

Regardless, when the engine is operating, I'll run it off the rear 12 volt socket, which I believe is rated at 10A. This thing peaks at 7A as I recall, and averages around a 1A draw.

While I got this for the 4Runner primarily, I can see uses in the home too, like now with grocery deliveries over-stuffing our fridge. Hard to visualize the size of some items when ordering online. And with the planned power outages we had in CA last summer, if that happens again, this will be nice to have as a back-up...

For about 700 bucks delivered, this was a worthwhile investment.

Nice looking fridge you got there.

I have a small Alpicool 15qt in my prius all the time. Its just to throw a few grociers in or keep a few drinks/snacks in on a long trip. We paid about $150 for the alpicool and ive had it for about 6 months so far. Im pretty happy with it.

I also have a 50qt ARB that lives in the Tacoma and an old engel on the garage for drinks. ARB is my favorite but to be fair its the newest one.

Thanks. I might consider a smaller Alpicool in our family car. The price is appealing for sure...

Did my homework on these, and the compressor is super important; and I decided that given how we plan to use it, I would not skimp on the purchase. Several makes appear to be top-notch. You mentioned a couple others. As I understand, Dometic makes the ARB units. So, in comparing those two it came-down to dimensions and other considerations. The fact that Dometic has a new line, I think called the CFX3, my display model no longer made sense for the store. That meant a good deal, which I jumped-on...

Truly amazed how much can fit into these units when ice and ice packs are not needed!
 
Well - I pulled the trigger and got the Alpicool C30. I’m digging it so far. Fits my needs and use and budget pretty well.

Gotta run a full time hit wire. I’ve only had a couple of days so no major tests yet.

Size feels perfect.

Adam - sorry long delay. I love it. I haven’t had a chance to really run it a ton in the field but the times I do it’s great.

The biggest issue fro me now is the stupid 12v outlet only works when the car is on. I need to either bypass it (read a lot but confusing I don’t know electrical) run a new hot line from the battery (full on project and lots of interior panel removal) or buy a Jackery or similar battery source. I’ve had a Jackery 240 in my Amazon cart for about a month. Just need to pull the trigger.

I wouldn’t go any smaller. But the 30 dimensions fit great in the runner and I can fully open the lid without pulling it out

I’ll never buy ice again. Well maybe for my whiskey [emoji1634][emoji41].

Seriously, this setup was the bomb. Held 35° nonstop. Each day I would toss a few beers and tons of fresh foods (fruits, meats, cheeses, condiments, bread and more) for lunch - tons of room. And off we went. Complete fridgeration freedom.
