Alpine HU in dash, replacing the stock

Thought I'd post a pic of my aftermarket HU, as it looks like it came with the Toyota. All the parts came from Crutchfield in 2007.

Did you notice a difference with the sound quility? Also does it work well with an ipod. Trying to find something for my 03

I installed an older alpine unit in my 04. I was planning on starting a thread w/ pics because it was hard for me to find any info/pics of installs. I will just add onto this one and take some pics later.

I've installed two kits:
1st-was the Metra kit (Metra usually has the best quality & fit), but it looked horrible. I wouldn't waist my time even trying this.

2nd- Scosche kit. It looks great. Fits perfectly around face of unit the the Alpine trim ring isn't even used. Again I will post a picture on here later.

Other install notes:
-If you've installed before there is nothing new here it was a very straight forward install. Hardest part is you will need to know what order and how to remove the trim pieces.
-On the wiring kit, you DO need to connect the power attenna (blue wires). I thought that becuase our trucks don't have power attennas that move up-down that it wasn't needed. Wrong-the trucks have some sort of powered attenna in the rear side windows.

As for sound. I left the factory speakers in and it still sounded 10 times better. Clearer sound with a little more bass. Yeah, there is still room for improvement, but for just a reciever upgrade it was worth it.
